Nissan X-Trail (2022-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Hugely practical | e-Power model is not as economical as you might hope |
| Lots of safety equipment | No plug-in hybrid option |
| Comfortable on long journeys | Some rivals offer more space in the third-row seats |
Quick Summary
The Nissan X-Trail (2022-present) is a quiet, comfortable, and well-equipped seven-seat family SUV that majors on practicality and versatility. Available in both five- and seven-seat configurations, it offers an impressive 575-litre boot in five-seat mode with a low load lip and flush floor for easy loading. The innovative e-Power hybrid system features a 1.5-litre petrol engine that charges a battery powering a 201bhp electric motor, delivering smooth, quiet performance with no direct petrol-to-wheel drive. An optional e-4orce four-wheel-drive variant adds a second electric motor for enhanced capability and moderate off-roading ability.
Safety standards are exemplary, with autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot warning, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control standard across the range. The infotainment system includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, whilst higher trims feature a head-up display and semi-autonomous driving modes. Real-world fuel economy ranges from 36-42mpg depending on driving conditions, though the e-Power's efficiency gains over conventional petrol alternatives are modest. Residual values are strong, making monthly ownership costs competitive. The X-Trail represents an excellent choice for families seeking a spacious, safe, and refined seven-seat SUV with impressive practicality and comfort.
Best for: Families needing seven-seat versatility, those prioritising safety and comfort, and buyers seeking a practical and well-equipped SUV with strong residual values.
Not ideal for: Those expecting exceptional fuel economy from the e-Power hybrid, buyers requiring a plug-in hybrid option, or those needing maximum third-row legroom compared to some rivals.

The Verdict
You should buy the X-Trail if: You need a spacious seven-seat SUV, prioritise safety and comfort, or seek a practical and well-equipped family vehicle with strong residual values.
Consider alternatives if: You expect exceptional fuel economy from a hybrid, require a plug-in hybrid option, or need maximum third-row legroom compared to some rivals.
Competitive Position: The Nissan X-Trail (2022-present) is a strong contender in the seven-seat SUV market, offering excellent practicality, comprehensive safety equipment, and refined comfort. Whilst the e-Power hybrid's real-world economy is modest compared to some rivals, the X-Trail's smooth, quiet performance and versatile interior make it highly competitive. The Peugeot 5008 edges ahead on user ratings and value, whilst the Skoda Kodiaq offers diesel efficiency and the Hyundai Santa Fe provides plug-in hybrid options. However, the X-Trail's combination of safety, comfort, and practicality makes it an excellent choice for families seeking a refined and dependable seven-seat SUV.

What people say
There are lots of safety features good value heated steering wheel is missing I would compare it to a Volvo cx60

I have the Tekna, has wonderfull features, very comfortable, and great Bose sound system.
In very good condition for the year. Could do with automatic folding mirrors.
This car has almost everything a driver can dream of. It was a peasant surprise to me. It has all I wanted: 7 doors, black, four wheel drive, back camera, leather seats etc. This car compares very well to Mercs GLA 250 Formatic. I know this because my wife drove this and I drove it too..
