Nissan X-Trail (2022-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Hugely practical | e-Power model is not as economical as you might hope |
| Lots of safety equipment | No plug-in hybrid option |
| Comfortable on long journeys | Some rivals offer more space in the third-row seats |
Quick Summary
The Nissan X-Trail (2022-present) is a refined and versatile family SUV, offered in both five- and seven-seat configurations. It stands out with its unique e-Power hybrid system, where a petrol engine acts as a generator for an electric motor that solely drives the wheels. This provides an EV-like driving experience with instant torque and smooth acceleration, without the need to plug in. It's hugely practical, with a spacious 575-litre boot in five-seat mode, wide-opening rear doors for easy access, and a high-quality, user-friendly interior.
The X-Trail prioritises comfort, delivering a quiet and composed ride even on poor surfaces. Standard safety equipment is a major strength, with features like adaptive cruise control and blind-spot warning included across the range. While the e-Power system is refined, its real-world fuel economy of around 40mpg may not surpass some diesel or plug-in hybrid rivals. However, compared to conventional petrol SUVs, it offers a compelling blend of performance, refinement, and competitive running costs, making it an excellent all-round family vehicle.
Best for: Families looking for a practical and comfortable seven-seat SUV, buyers who value high levels of standard safety equipment, and those wanting an EV-like drive without range anxiety.
Not ideal for: Drivers prioritising maximum fuel efficiency (PHEV rivals are better), those who need a plug-in option for company car tax benefits, or families requiring more than two ISOFIX points.

The Verdict
You should buy the X-Trail if: You need a practical and comfortable family SUV with up to seven seats, value extensive standard safety features, and like the idea of a smooth, EV-like driving experience.
Consider alternatives if: Your main priority is the lowest possible running costs, you require a plug-in hybrid, or you need to fit three child seats across the middle row.
Competitive Position: The Nissan X-Trail is a highly competitive entry in the large family SUV segment. It excels with its comfortable ride, practical interior, and generous standard safety kit. Its unique e-Power hybrid system provides a refined driving experience that sets it apart from many rivals. While it's not a class-leader for fuel economy and lacks a PHEV option, its blend of versatility, technology, and comfort makes it a compelling and functional choice for many families.

(33 reviews)I have the Tekna, has wonderfull features, very comfortable, and great Bose sound system.
In very good condition for the year. Could do with automatic folding mirrors.
This car has almost everything a driver can dream of. It was a peasant surprise to me. It has all I wanted: 7 doors, black, four wheel drive, back camera, leather seats etc. This car compares very well to Mercs GLA 250 Formatic. I know this because my wife drove this and I drove it too..
I really do like these cars. I have just purchased my 4th model . The standard features are good and the higher spec model are fantastic if I thought that they were no good I wouldnt have had 4 different models
Love the big boot. I drive a 04 xtrail and love it and these new ones are even better all round
