Nissan X-Trail (2022-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Hugely practical | e-Power model is not as economical as you might hope |
| Lots of safety equipment | No plug-in hybrid option |
| Comfortable on long journeys | Some rivals offer more space in the third-row seats |
Quick Summary
The Nissan X-Trail (2022-present) is a quiet, comfortable, and confident family SUV that majors on interior versatility with both five- and seven-seat variants available. It features a spacious 575-litre boot in five-seat mode, wide-opening rear doors for excellent access, and masses of legroom and headroom. The innovative e-Power hybrid system uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine to charge a battery that powers electric motors, delivering smooth acceleration and impressive refinement. Safety standards are exemplary, with autonomous forward emergency braking, blind-spot warning, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control all standard, even on entry-level models.
The X-Trail offers excellent practicality for family motoring, with flexible seating arrangements and comprehensive storage solutions including a hidden centre console area. Whilst the e-Power hybrid's real-world fuel economy of 36-42mpg is not as impressive as some rivals, it still compares favourably to conventional petrol alternatives. Available in multiple trim levels from Acenta Premium through to the luxurious Tekna+, the X-Trail provides strong value and competitive residuals. The e-4orce four-wheel-drive variant with dual electric motors offers moderate off-roading capability and hill descent features, making it a versatile choice for diverse driving needs.
Best for: Families seeking a spacious, well-equipped seven-seat SUV with excellent safety features, comfortable long-distance driving, and practical interior versatility.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising maximum third-row passenger space, those seeking the best fuel economy in the class, or those requiring a plug-in hybrid option.

The Verdict
You should buy the X-Trail if: You're seeking a spacious, well-equipped seven-seat SUV with excellent safety features, comfortable long-distance driving, and practical interior versatility for family motoring.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise maximum third-row passenger space, the best fuel economy in the class, or require a plug-in hybrid option.
Competitive Position: The Nissan X-Trail (2022-present) is a strong contender in the seven-seat SUV market, offering excellent practicality, comprehensive safety equipment, and a refined driving experience. Whilst the Peugeot 5008 edges ahead on user ratings and value, and the Skoda Kodiaq offers competitive space and economy, the X-Trail's innovative e-Power hybrid system, superior comfort on long journeys, and extensive standard safety features make it a compelling choice. The e-4orce four-wheel-drive variant also provides genuine off-roading capability, setting it apart from some rivals. For families prioritising comfort, safety, and versatility over maximum economy, the X-Trail represents excellent value.

What people say
I have the Tekna, has wonderfull features, very comfortable, and great Bose sound system.
In very good condition for the year. Could do with automatic folding mirrors.
This car has almost everything a driver can dream of. It was a peasant surprise to me. It has all I wanted: 7 doors, black, four wheel drive, back camera, leather seats etc. This car compares very well to Mercs GLA 250 Formatic. I know this because my wife drove this and I drove it too..
I really do like these cars. I have just purchased my 4th model . The standard features are good and the higher spec model are fantastic if I thought that they were no good I wouldnt have had 4 different models
Love the big boot. I drive a 04 xtrail and love it and these new ones are even better all round
