Peugeot 207 (2006-2014) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Distinctive good looks | Not as good to drive as a Ford Fiesta |
| Economical petrol and diesel engines | Early models lack Bluetooth |
| Excellent safety standards for a car of this age | If the 207 CC's folding roof fails it's expensive to fix |
Quick Summary
The Peugeot 207 (2006-2014) is an attractive and economical supermini that replaced the 206 in 2006. Available as a three-door or five-door hatchback, plus a practical SW estate and stylish CC convertible, the 207 offers something for different needs. The car increased in size over its predecessor, delivering improved practicality and space, though rear legroom remains tight for adults. With a 270-litre boot (or 428-litres in the SW), it trails some rivals for luggage space, but the low loading lip and easily folded rear seats help. A 2009 facelift brought updated styling and Bluetooth connectivity to later models.
The 207 drives well with sharp steering and a supple ride, though it doesn't match the Ford Fiesta for handling engagement. Engine choices include economical diesels delivering 55-60mpg in real-world driving, and petrol units offering around 40-45mpg depending on capacity. The rare GTi variant, with 175bhp, provides a more spirited drive. Running costs are low, with some Economique models exempt from road tax due to sub-100g/km emissions. Safety is a strong point, with a five-star Euro NCAP rating and six airbags. The 207's distinctive styling and affordability make it an appealing used buy, though it's not as spacious as a Skoda Fabia or as reliable as a Honda Jazz.
Best for: Buyers seeking distinctive styling, economical running costs, and a safe, comfortable supermini for everyday driving and short journeys.
Not ideal for: Those prioritising engaging handling, generous rear legroom, or maximum boot space, or drivers in Ultra Low Emissions Zones with diesel models.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Peugeot 207 | 3/5 | 5.0/5 | 29.8% | 4.0/5 |
| Vauxhall Corsa | 3/5 | 4.5/5 | 28.6% | 4.2/5 |

| Volkswagen Polo | 4/5 | 4.5/5 | 32.9% | 4.3/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the 207 if: You value distinctive styling, economical running costs, and a safe, comfortable supermini for everyday driving and shorter journeys.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise engaging handling, generous rear legroom, maximum boot space, or need to avoid diesel models due to emissions restrictions.
Competitive Position: The Peugeot 207 (2006-2014) is a stylish and economical contender in the used supermini market. Whilst it doesn't match the Ford Fiesta for driving dynamics or offer the roominess of a Skoda Fabia, its distinctive looks, low running costs, and strong safety credentials make it an appealing choice for budget-conscious buyers. The range of body styles—hatchback, estate, and convertible—provides flexibility for different needs. However, potential buyers should avoid early petrol models and seek out post-2009 facelift cars for Bluetooth connectivity. The 207 represents good value for those willing to prioritise style and economy over outright practicality or driving engagement.

Very fond of the Peugeot make of car. Are able to get to my various destinations and makes me feel very secure when behind the wheel !
Great cars. I love Peugeots. I’ve had this age of car and model before & even a CC model. Really good price and condition too. It doesn’t have all the new tech stuff in it though like sat nav, but it does have air con which is a must for me. Comfortable and reliable too in my experience.
