Peugeot 207 (2006-2014) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Distinctive good looks	Not as good to drive as a Ford Fiesta
Economical petrol and diesel engines	Early models lack Bluetooth
Excellent safety standards for a car of this age	If the 207 CC's folding roof fails it's expensive to fix

Quick Summary

The Peugeot 207 (2006-2014) is an attractively styled supermini that replaced the 206 and offered increased practicality through its larger dimensions. Available as a three-door or five-door hatchback, estate (SW), or convertible (CC), the 207 provides versatility for different needs. The 2009 facelift introduced subtle styling refinements and added Bluetooth connectivity to later models. With 2.5 million units produced before the 208 arrived in 2012, there remains a healthy selection of used examples available.

The 207 delivers reasonable comfort for front occupants and a supple ride that makes it one of the more comfortable superminis of its era. Diesel engines offer excellent mid-range pulling power and low fuel consumption, whilst petrol options provide smooth refinement. The GTi variant, with its turbocharged 1.6-litre engine producing 175bhp, offers engaging handling and spirited performance. Running costs are generally low, particularly for diesel models, with some Economique variants emitting just 99g/km of CO2. Safety is a strong point, with a five-star Euro NCAP rating and comprehensive airbag protection.

Best for: Budget-conscious buyers seeking distinctive styling, those prioritising low running costs, and drivers wanting a practical family hatchback or estate with good safety credentials.

Not ideal for: Buyers seeking the finest handling dynamics, those requiring spacious rear accommodation, or drivers wanting the latest infotainment technology on earlier models.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the 207 if: You're seeking distinctive styling, prioritising low running costs, or wanting a practical family hatchback or estate with strong safety credentials and budget-friendly pricing.

Consider alternatives if: You value the finest handling dynamics, require spacious rear accommodation, or prefer the latest infotainment technology as standard.

Competitive Position: The Peugeot 207 (2006-2014) is an excellent value proposition in the used supermini market, offering distinctive styling, economical engines, and strong safety standards. Whilst it may not match the Ford Fiesta for driving dynamics or the Volkswagen Polo for premium appeal, its affordability, low running costs, and practical versatility make it an attractive choice for budget-conscious buyers. The availability of estate and convertible variants adds flexibility, and the GTi option provides an engaging performance alternative. For those prioritising style and value over outright driving thrills, the 207 represents a sensible and characterful used car purchase.
