Test drove this van , started up alright and then drove it up the road, however when warmed up started blowing plumes of white smoke out, this indicates that a head gasket fault is present on this van

Simple, uncomplicated vehicle with excellent economy. Build quality is ok, but there are better. It has most things I would want, as do it’s’non-biological triplets’, the Relay and Ducato and the Relay.

Peugeot Boxer (2006-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Impressive load space and payload | Rivals are more refined and better to drive |
| Economical 2.2-litre diesel | Some gearbox issues with older used models |
| Well equipped | Electric version won't go far on a charge |
Quick Summary
The Peugeot Boxer is a large van available in multiple configurations, including panel van, crew van, and window van variants. Introduced in 2006 as a collaboration with Fiat and Citroën, it offers impressive load space and payload capacity across three wheelbase options. The van features practical design elements such as 180-degree opening rear doors (with a 270-degree option available), wide side doors for pallet loading, and numerous storage compartments. Current models are powered by 2.2-litre BlueHDi diesel engines producing either 118bhp or 138bhp, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox.
Whilst the Boxer has received updates including a major 2014 facelift and Euro 6-compliant engines, its underlying age is apparent in driving dynamics compared to newer rivals. The suspension is rough and handling lacks finesse, making longer drives potentially fatiguing. However, it remains economical, with claimed fuel economy up to 36mpg, and offers excellent practicality with flexible configurations and good manoeuvrability. A recently launched electric version provides a smoother, quieter alternative but with limited range, making it better suited to local deliveries than long-haul transport.
Best for: Businesses needing large load space and payload capacity, operators seeking economical diesel running costs, and those requiring flexible van configurations and good practicality.
Not ideal for: Drivers prioritising refined, comfortable driving experiences, those requiring long-range electric capability, or buyers wanting the latest technology and handling refinement.

| Peugeot Boxer | 3/5 | 3.7/5 | 35.0% | 4.0/5 |
| Ford Transit | 4/5 | 4.6/5 | 28.3% | 4.4/5 |

The Verdict
You should buy the Boxer if: You need impressive load space and payload capacity, seek economical diesel running costs, or require flexible van configurations and practical design.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise refined and comfortable driving experiences, need long-range electric capability, or want the latest technology and handling refinement.
Competitive Position: The Peugeot Boxer remains a competitively economical option with excellent load space, payload capacity, and configurability. Whilst newer rivals such as the Ford Transit are more refined and better to drive, the Boxer's updates—particularly the 2.2-litre BlueHDi engines meeting modern emissions regulations—keep it in contention. Its well-equipped nature and practical design make it a sensible purchase for businesses prioritising functionality and economy over driving refinement. The recently launched electric variant offers an alternative for local operations, though its limited range restricts long-haul applications.
