Renault Arkana (2021-present) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Very stylish and striking	E-Tech hybrid won't go far on electricity alone
Surprisingly roomy for people and luggage	Not as exciting to drive as a Cupra Formentor
Excellent 1.3 TCe engine	No 4x4 version

Quick Summary

The Renault Arkana (2021-present) is a striking coupe SUV that combines eye-catching styling with practical family-car functionality. Built on the CMF-B platform shared with the Captur and Clio, the Arkana features an elongated wheelbase that benefits rear passengers with significantly more legroom. Despite its plunging roofline, rear headroom remains decent, and the 480-litre boot offers 50 litres more space than a Nissan Qashqai. The interior is smartly finished with a neatly proportioned steering wheel, classy gear selector, large central touchscreen, and rotary dials for climate control. Smallish rear windows and a dinky rear screen are minor downsides.

The Arkana is available with two petrol engines: a mild-hybrid 1.3-litre TCe with a seven-speed twin-clutch automatic, and a full-hybrid E-Tech combining electric motors with a 1.6-litre petrol engine. The E-Tech achieves 58.9mpg compared to the TCe's 48.7mpg, though the hybrid's gearbox can be slow-shifting with occasional judder. The ride is smooth and well-balanced, with good noise isolation and nicely weighted steering and brakes. Multiple trim levels offer varying specifications, from entry-level Iconic to top-spec R.S. Line with sports seats and automatic parking. Service intervals are annual or 12,000 miles, with a three-year Easy Life plan costing around £500.

Best for: Style-conscious buyers seeking a practical family SUV with striking design, those wanting excellent fuel economy (E-Tech), and drivers who appreciate a well-finished interior with modern technology.

Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising driving excitement comparable to a Cupra Formentor, those needing 4x4 capability, or those wanting a hybrid with substantial electric-only range.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Arkana if: You value striking design and practicality, seek excellent fuel economy with the E-Tech hybrid, or want a well-finished interior with modern technology and family-friendly space.

Consider alternatives if: You prioritise driving excitement comparable to a Cupra Formentor, require 4x4 capability, or want a hybrid with substantial electric-only range.

Competitive Position: The Renault Arkana is a compelling choice in the coupe SUV segment, offering distinctive styling that sets it apart in an increasingly homogeneous market. Whilst it may not match the Cupra Formentor for driving dynamics or the Toyota C-HR for user ratings, the Arkana delivers excellent value with its spacious interior, smart finish, and efficient engines. The 1.3 TCe engine is particularly impressive, offering proven reliability and sweet performance. With good availability of deals and competitive pricing, the Arkana represents a stylish and practical option for buyers seeking something different without sacrificing practicality or comfort.
