Renault Kadjar (2015-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Keenly priced as a used car | Dull to drive |
| Spacious and practical interior | Bland interior design |
| Excellent fuel economy | Infotainment system is too fiddly |
Quick Summary
The Renault Kadjar (2015-present) is Renault's entry into the small family SUV market, sharing its underpinnings and engine range with the Nissan Qashqai. It boasts a spacious and well-thought-out interior with a large boot (up to 527 litres) and ample room for adults in the back, making it a practical choice for families. While it lacks the versatile sliding rear seats found in some competitors, its overall functionality is strong, though driving dynamics can feel a little soulless, and earlier models exhibited a slightly bouncy ride. Despite some criticisms regarding a clunky infotainment system and interior plastics, the Kadjar offers excellent value on the used market. Fuel economy is a strong suit, with diesel versions achieving around 60mpg and petrols 40-45mpg. Most engines feature a timing chain, reducing long-term maintenance, though the 1.5-litre diesel uses a belt requiring periodic replacement. It stands as a sensible, economical, and value-packed option for those seeking a spacious family car.
Best for: Drivers on a budget, those seeking a spacious and practical family SUV, buyers prioritising excellent fuel economy and low running costs.
Not ideal for: Drivers seeking an engaging driving experience, those who prefer a premium interior with advanced infotainment, or buyers needing versatile sliding rear seats.

The Verdict

Consider alternatives if: You desire an engaging driving experience, a premium interior with advanced infotainment, or versatile sliding rear seats.
Competitive Position: The Renault Kadjar (2015-present) is a compelling option in the competitive family SUV market, particularly for budget-conscious buyers. While it may not offer the most thrilling drive or the most luxurious interior compared to rivals like the Seat Ateca or Peugeot 3008, its strong points lie in its excellent value, spacious and practical cabin, and impressive fuel economy. Its shared platform with the Nissan Qashqai provides a solid foundation, making it a sensible and economical choice for families.

4.3 Overall rating
(14 reviews)Great spec car, 1.5 diesel getting 55 mpg, very comfortable drive and love to be able to split the room in the boot, good visibility all round wouldn’t hesitate to recommend
good value, got everithing i wanted, excelent condition, looked at others this was the best one.
Definitely value for money and a comfortable drive .
Good car, for size, space, comfy,,practical, smooth ride and 1.3tce is punchy around town! Just wish I’d checked more thoroughly as I’d have gone for Dynamic s or higher specs, as Dynamic Nav does not come with parking sensors or camera which I’m used to. Rear visibility is limited! Makes parking awkward
The Dynamique S Nav 1.5 diesel has all the extras I like and need.
