Seat Arona (2017-present) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Light controls make it easy to drive in town	Diesel engines discontinued from mid-2021
Spacious boot by class standards	No hybrid option
Composed and comfortable ride	Some owners complain of squeaks and rattles

Quick Summary

The Seat Arona (2017-present) is a stylish and practical small crossover SUV that combines attractive design with genuine everyday usability. Built on the Ibiza platform with added ground clearance and a taller body, it offers surprising interior space for its compact dimensions. The 400-litre boot exceeds that of a Volkswagen Golf, whilst the cabin accommodates six-foot adults comfortably in both front and rear seats. Light steering and well-controlled handling make it easy to manoeuvre in urban environments, whilst the composed ride quality remains unruffled by challenging road surfaces.

Engine options include 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol units (95bhp and 110bhp), with older models offering 1.5-litre petrol and 1.6-litre diesel alternatives. All engines achieve fuel economy exceeding 50mpg officially, with real-world figures around 50mpg for petrol and 55-60mpg for diesel. The Arona appeals particularly to younger buyers and families, offering extensive personalisation through nine body colours and three contrasting roof options. Equipment levels are generous across the range, with most models featuring an eight-inch touchscreen and smartphone connectivity via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

Best for: Families seeking a practical and stylish small SUV, younger buyers wanting personalisation options, and those prioritising easy town driving and comfortable long-distance travel.

Not ideal for: Buyers requiring diesel engines (post-2021 models), those seeking hybrid technology, or drivers concerned about potential interior quality issues.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Arona if: You're seeking a stylish and practical small SUV, want extensive personalisation options, or prioritise easy town driving and comfortable long-distance travel.

Consider alternatives if: You require diesel engines (post-2021 models), seek hybrid technology, or are concerned about potential interior quality issues.

Competitive Position: The Seat Arona is a strong contender in the compact crossover segment, offering excellent value and practicality. Whilst the Skoda Kamiq edges ahead with superior ratings and the Ford Puma provides more engaging driving dynamics, the Arona's combination of style, spaciousness, and light controls makes it an excellent choice for families and urban drivers. Its generous equipment levels and personalisation options provide genuine appeal, particularly for younger buyers seeking a fashionable yet functional vehicle. The Arona represents a well-rounded package that balances practicality with contemporary design.
