Seat Arona (2017-present) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Light controls make it easy to drive in town	Diesel engines discontinued from mid-2021
Spacious boot by class standards	No hybrid option
Composed and comfortable ride	Some owners complain of squeaks and rattles

Quick Summary

The Seat Arona (2017-present) is a stylish and practical small SUV that combines attractive design with genuine family-friendly functionality. Built on the Ibiza platform with added ground clearance and a taller body, it offers surprising interior space for its compact dimensions. With 400 litres of boot space—more than a Volkswagen Golf—and comfortable seating for five, the Arona delivers excellent practicality. The driving experience is composed and well-balanced, with light controls that make it easy to manoeuvre in town, whilst the ride remains unruffled on challenging road surfaces.

Engine options include 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol units (95bhp or 110bhp) and earlier 1.5-litre and 1.6-litre diesel variants, all delivering fuel economy exceeding 50mpg. Running costs are reasonable, with insurance groups ranging from 8E to 18E and resale values estimated at 42-48% of original value after three years. The facelifted 2021 model introduced an upgraded infotainment system with optional 9.2-inch display. The Arona appeals to younger buyers and families alike, offering personalisation options through nine body colours and three contrasting roof choices.

Best for: Families seeking a stylish, practical small SUV with easy town driving, buyers wanting personalisation options, and those prioritising comfort and composure over outright performance.

Not ideal for: Buyers requiring diesel engines (post-2021 models), those seeking hybrid technology, or drivers wanting a more engaging driving experience than rivals like the Ford Puma.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Arona if: You're seeking a stylish, practical small SUV with easy town driving, want personalisation options, or prioritise comfort and composure over outright performance.

Consider alternatives if: You require diesel engines (post-2021 models), seek hybrid technology, or desire a more engaging driving experience than the Arona offers.

Competitive Position: The Seat Arona is a strong contender in the small SUV segment, offering excellent style, practicality, and value. Whilst the Skoda Kamiq and Ford Puma score higher on expert ratings and the Kamiq excels in user satisfaction, the Arona remains a highly competitive choice. It delivers composed handling, spacious interiors, and light controls ideal for town driving. The Volkswagen T-Cross is a close alternative, but the Arona offers superior boot space and personalisation options. For buyers prioritising style, practicality, and ease of use over outright driving engagement, the Arona represents outstanding value in a crowded market.
