Seat Arona (2017-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Light controls make it easy to drive in town | Diesel engines discontinued from mid-2021 |
| Spacious boot by class standards | No hybrid option |
| Composed and comfortable ride | Some owners complain of squeaks and rattles |
Quick Summary
The Seat Arona (2017-present) is a stylish and practical small SUV that combines attractive design with genuine usability for families. Built on the Ibiza platform with added ground clearance and a taller body, it offers surprising interior space with a 400-litre boot—more than a Volkswagen Golf. The cabin features quality materials and modern infotainment, with an eight-inch touchscreen on most models and a 9.2-inch option on facelifted versions from mid-2021. Light steering and composed handling make it easy to drive in town, whilst the ride remains unruffled on challenging roads.
Engine options include 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol units (95bhp or 110bhp) and older 1.5-litre and 1.6-litre diesel variants, all delivering over 50mpg officially. Real-world fuel economy typically ranges from 50-60mpg depending on driving style and engine choice. Running costs are reasonable, with insurance groups between 8E and 18E and strong resale values of 42-48% after three years. The Arona appeals to younger buyers and families alike, offering excellent value at the lower end of the range with generous standard equipment throughout.
Best for: Families seeking a practical and stylish small SUV, younger buyers wanting personalisation options, and those prioritising easy town driving and comfortable long-distance travel.
Not ideal for: Buyers requiring diesel engines (post-2021 models), those seeking hybrid technology, or drivers wanting the most engaging driving dynamics in the segment.

The Verdict
You should buy the Arona if: You're seeking a practical and stylish small SUV, want easy town driving with a comfortable ride, or desire personalisation options with generous standard equipment.
Consider alternatives if: You require diesel engines on newer models, need hybrid technology, or prioritise the most engaging driving dynamics available in the segment.
Competitive Position: The Seat Arona (2017-present) is a strong contender in the small SUV market, offering excellent style, practicality, and value. Whilst the Skoda Kamiq edges ahead with slightly higher ratings and the Ford Puma provides more engaging driving dynamics, the Arona delivers a well-rounded package with light controls, a spacious interior, and composed handling. Its attractive design and personalisation options appeal particularly to younger buyers and families, making it a sensible choice for those prioritising comfort and usability over outright performance. The Volkswagen T-Cross offers similar practicality but the Arona provides better value at the lower end of the range.

4 Overall rating
(5 reviews)Car was fine. My previous car was Seat Ibiza so I know the car very well. Just one problem there was no service stamps on the service book?
Nice super mini SUV ,It is a seat ibiza raised up to look like a SUV, interior is a little more spacious than you think, unfortunately i am 6 feet tall and well rounded so when drivers seat back enough for me to be comfortable there will be no room in the rear seat for a passenger. Limited engine options . great for around town but a little under powered if using motorways . Having said this if i was 5ft 8 inches and slim then i would recommend this car without any hesitation.
I am very pleased with my new car, it’s exactly what I wanted, suit’s me to a tee!
I wouldnt know what the Arona is like, I have never driven one. The Kamiq on the other hand is a brilliant car. I have the 1 . 5 TSI Monte Carlo. Its comfortable, spacious and economic. Would recommend it.
Excellent car, great to drive, and was in very nice condition. very pleased
