Seat Tarraco (2018-present) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Lots of standard equipment	A little pricey compared with some rivals
Good to drive	Third row of seats really for kids only
Versatile interior	Badge doesn't quite have the kudos of a VW

Quick Summary

The Seat Tarraco (2018-present) is a stylishly designed seven-seat large SUV that arrives relatively late to the market but makes a compelling case for itself. With sharp styling lines and triangular graphics that echo Seat's smaller models, the Tarraco stands out in a segment often dominated by less visually appealing vehicles. The cabin is well designed and spacious, featuring a practical dashboard, highly usable centre console, and commanding driving position with excellent visibility. The middle row of seats is a 40:20:40 bench that moves forward and back for flexible legroom, whilst the third row provides occasional seating, primarily suited to children. The 700-litre boot (760 litres in five-seat versions) exceeds rivals such as the Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe.

Seat has engineered the Tarraco to be relatively enjoyable to drive, feeling more agile than competitors like the Nissan X-Trail or Sorento despite weighing over 1,800kg. The steering is accurate and secure, whilst switchable drive modes adapt to various conditions. The ride is very good, smoothing out serious disruptions to comfort. Technology includes an 8.0-inch touchscreen and 10.25-inch digital driver display with navigation capability, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Running costs are moderate for the class, with diesel engines offering better economy than petrol alternatives, though real-world figures typically fall below official claims. Resale values are predicted to be among the best in its class, and the Tarraco is well equipped at every trim level, justifying its premium positioning.

Best for: Buyers seeking a stylish seven-seat SUV with good driving dynamics, excellent equipment levels, and strong resale values; families needing versatile interior space and practicality.

Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers seeking the cheapest option in the segment, those prioritising premium badge appeal, or drivers requiring genuine adult space in the third row of seats.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Tarraco if: You're seeking a stylish seven-seat SUV with good driving dynamics, excellent equipment levels, and strong resale values; or you need versatile interior space and practicality for family use.

Consider alternatives if: You're budget-conscious and seeking the cheapest option in the segment, prioritise premium badge appeal, or require genuine adult space in the third row of seats.

Competitive Position: The Seat Tarraco (2018-present) is a strong contender in the seven-seat SUV market, offering stylish design, good driving dynamics, and excellent equipment levels. Whilst the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace scores higher with experts and the Skoda Kodiaq and Peugeot 5008 offer slightly better value deals, the Tarraco's combination of sharp styling, versatile interior, and strong resale values make it an attractive choice for buyers who appreciate design and practicality. It sits at a premium price point compared to some rivals, but justifies this through comprehensive standard equipment and a more engaging driving experience than many competitors in the segment.
