Skoda Citigo (2012-2020) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Better value than a VW Up | Interior not as posh as VW Up's |
| Fun yet comfortable to drive | Equipment can feel a little basic |
| Cheap to run | Limited performance |
Quick Summary
The Skoda Citigo (2012-2020) is part of a successful trio of city cars from the Volkswagen Group, alongside the Seat Mii and VW Up. Renowned for its excellent value, surprising spaciousness, and enjoyable driving dynamics, it was available in three and five-door configurations. Initially offered with a 1.0-litre petrol engine, a pure electric version, the Citigo-e iV, was introduced later, boasting a 161-mile range and proving immensely popular.
Despite its compact size, the Citigo comfortably accommodates four adults and offers a practical 251-litre boot, making it one of the roomiest in its class. Its 1.0-litre petrol engine, though not powerful, is willing around town, complemented by light steering and a comfortable ride. Safety is a strong point, with a five-star Euro NCAP rating and optional autonomous emergency braking. Running costs are exceptionally low, with good fuel economy, affordable servicing, and minimal road tax, making it a budget-friendly option.
Best for: Drivers on a budget, city dwellers, those seeking a practical and fun small car, and buyers looking for an affordable EV (Citigo-e iV).
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising premium interior materials, high performance, or comprehensive standard equipment on base trims.

Consider alternatives if: You prioritise premium interior materials, require higher performance, or want comprehensive standard equipment on all trims.
Competitive Position: The Skoda Citigo (2012-2020) stands out in the city car segment for its exceptional value, surprising practicality, and enjoyable driving dynamics. While its interior might not match the perceived premium feel of its VW Up sibling, its low running costs, five-star safety rating, and the option of an affordable electric variant make it a highly intelligent choice. It offers a compelling blend of affordability, efficiency, and fun, positioning it as one of the best used small cars available.

(8 reviews)Fantastic little car. Very nippy and a pleasure to drive. Holds the road really well. Excellent value for money.
I no longer needed a Chelsea Tractor. The Citigo has enough features, is not over complicated, it is easy to drive , comfortable and economical. This is my fourth Skoda ( each a different model ). Need I say no more ?
Very good value. Perfect for a new driver. Slightly cheaper than UP.
