Skoda Kamiq (2019-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Very roomy for a small SUV | Not as much fun as a Ford Puma |
| Good value for money | There's no fuel-sipping hybrid model |
| Comfortable to travel in and appealing to drive | Lacks the sliding rear seats of some rivals |
Quick Summary
The Skoda Kamiq (2019-present) is a compact crossover that combines practicality with excellent value, offering more interior space than most rivals despite its supermini-sized footprint. With a well-finished cabin, comfortable seating for five, and 400 litres of boot space, it's a highly serviceable family car. The driving position sits lower than typical SUVs, but the plush ride and excellent noise suppression make it comfortable for long journeys. Four spec levels cater to different needs, from the modest S to the sporty Monte Carlo variant.
Engine options include three petrol variants (94bhp, 114bhp, and 148bhp) and one diesel (114bhp 1.6 TDI), all delivering impressive fuel economy and willing performance. The entry-level petrol achieves 44.8-49.6mpg, whilst the diesel returns 48.7-52.3mpg. Insurance groups are competitive, starting from group eight, and Skoda's fixed-price servicing plans offer predictable running costs. Skoda's reputation for reliability means you can buy with confidence, whether new or used.
Best for: Families seeking a practical, well-equipped small SUV with excellent value, comfortable long-distance travel, and low running costs.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising engaging driving dynamics (the Ford Puma offers more fun), those wanting a high-up SUV seating position, or those seeking a hybrid powertrain option.

The Verdict
You should buy the Kamiq if: You're seeking a practical, well-equipped small SUV with excellent value, comfortable long-distance travel, and low running costs.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise engaging driving dynamics, a high-up SUV seating position, or a hybrid powertrain option.
Competitive Position: The Skoda Kamiq (2019-present) stands at the top of the small SUV class, offering exceptional practicality and value that rivals struggle to match. Whilst the Ford Puma delivers more engaging driving dynamics, the Kamiq compensates with superior interior space, a better-finished cabin, and more generous equipment across the range. It outperforms the Nissan Juke in expert ratings and matches the Volkswagen T-Cross whilst offering better value. For families prioritising comfort, space, and affordability over driving thrills, the Kamiq is the standout choice in its segment.
