Skoda Kamiq (2019-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Very roomy for a small SUV | Not as much fun as a Ford Puma |
| Good value for money | There's no fuel-sipping hybrid model |
| Comfortable to travel in and appealing to drive | Lacks the sliding rear seats of some rivals |
Quick Summary
The Skoda Kamiq (2019-present) is a compact crossover that punches well above its weight in terms of practicality and interior space. Despite its supermini-sized footprint, it offers more room than most competitors, with a comfortable rear cabin and 400 litres of boot space. The cabin is exceptionally well finished, and the plush ride makes it genuinely comfortable for long-distance travel. Four trim levels—S, SE, SE L, and Monte Carlo—cater to different needs, with progressive equipment upgrades including smartphone integration, digital cockpit, and premium styling options.
Engine options include three petrol variants (94bhp, 114bhp, and 148bhp) and a single 114bhp diesel, all delivering impressive fuel economy without hybrid assistance. The 114bhp petrol offers the best balance of performance and efficiency, whilst the diesel achieves up to 52.3mpg. Insurance groups are competitive, starting from group eight, and Skoda's fixed-price servicing plans provide predictable running costs. As a used purchase, the Kamiq represents excellent value, combining space, comfort, reliability, and affordability in one practical package.
Best for: Families seeking maximum interior space in a compact package, buyers prioritising comfort and practicality over driving thrills, and those wanting reliable, economical transport with excellent value for money.
Not ideal for: Drivers who prioritise engaging handling and driving dynamics (the Ford Puma is more fun), those seeking a hybrid option, or buyers wanting a high-up SUV driving position.

The Verdict
You should buy the Kamiq if: You're seeking maximum interior space in a compact package, prioritising comfort and practicality, or wanting reliable, economical transport with excellent value for money.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise engaging handling and driving dynamics, require a hybrid option, or want a high-up SUV driving position like the Ford Puma offers.
Competitive Position: The Skoda Kamiq (2019-present) stands at the top of the small SUV class, matching the Ford Puma for overall excellence whilst offering superior interior space and practicality. It outperforms the Nissan Juke and Volkswagen T-Cross in expert ratings and delivers exceptional value for money. Whilst the Ford Puma provides more engaging driving dynamics, the Kamiq's combination of spaciousness, comfort, reliability, and affordability makes it the smarter choice for families and practical buyers. Its well-finished cabin, efficient engines, and competitive insurance groups ensure low running costs, making it an outstanding used purchase for those prioritising substance over driving thrills.
