The Subaru XV is no pretend 4x4. Unlike many rivals that look a lot tougher than they are, Subaru's compact SUV has proper off-road ability. Every version comes with four-wheel drive, and enough ground clearance to cope with muddy trails. It's not a bad car to drive on the road either. However, it's held back by a limited engine range and stiff new car prices.

Best for good road handling, visibility and comfort of seats. Rear legroom his good too. Boot is a little son the small side.
