Suzuki Ignis (2016-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Easy to drive around town | Plasticky cabin |
| Lively 1.2-litre engine | Very small boot |
| Cute and unusual looks | Noisy on a long drive |
Quick Summary
The Suzuki Ignis (2016-present) is a characterful and compact SUV that excels in urban environments. Shorter than a MINI and almost as narrow as a Volkswagen Up, it's ideally suited to Britain's congested towns and cities. Despite its diminutive dimensions, the tall design provides comfortable seating for four adults. The funky styling, with fat wheel arches and a mischievous face, references the classic Suzuki Whizzkid from the 1970s whilst adding a modern twist. Rear seats slide individually to increase boot space when needed, making it one of the most versatile small cars available.
The peppy 1.2-litre petrol engine delivers impressive fuel economy of around 50mpg on average, with low emissions keeping tax costs affordable. A metal timing chain ensures long-term reliability without costly belt replacements. Whilst the interior feels slightly plasticky in places and the infotainment system is fiddly, the bits you touch most often are made from higher-quality materials. The Ignis is smooth on motorways and genuinely fun around town, where its diminutive dimensions and easy parking make it a joy to drive. For budget-conscious buyers seeking a fun, characterful town car with low running costs, the Ignis is well worth considering.
Best for: Urban drivers seeking a fun, characterful car with excellent manoeuvrability, budget-conscious buyers wanting low running costs, and those who value quirky styling and practicality over premium interiors.
Not ideal for: Buyers needing a large boot, those prioritising a premium cabin feel, or drivers who regularly undertake long motorway journeys where engine noise may become tiresome.

The Verdict
You should buy the Ignis if: You're an urban driver seeking a fun, characterful car with excellent manoeuvrability, a budget-conscious buyer wanting low running costs, or someone who values quirky styling and practicality over premium interiors.
Consider alternatives if: You need a large boot, prioritise a premium cabin feel, or regularly undertake long motorway journeys where engine noise may become tiresome.
Competitive Position: The Suzuki Ignis (2016-present) is a distinctive contender in the compact SUV market, offering excellent value and urban practicality. Whilst the Dacia Duster edges ahead with a higher expert rating and user score, the Ignis compensates with superior manoeuvrability, characterful styling, and exceptional fuel economy. It outperforms the Fiat Panda and matches the MG ZS in user ratings. The Ignis is best suited to buyers prioritising fun, quirky design, and town-friendly dimensions over spaciousness and premium feel. Its low running costs and versatile seating make it an intelligent choice for budget-conscious urban drivers.

4.5 Overall rating
(7 reviews)Excellent car, moves well, feel very secure. The only thing, especially when the car is new and it is at night time if their was some light where the media and the buttons below are - for me that is the only thing missing.
I love the 2019 Suzki Ingis. Its a fantastic small SUV. Everything you need for a city or country driving. Highly recommend serving at a Suzki garage too. Japan certainly know how to build a superb car.
I love the look, style and features of this car but my current car has similar features bigger engine and same mpg. Im still looking for the ideal car.

I liked the layout of the dashboard good size screen the different colour trim was a nice touch good seat position for me as I am under 5ft overall a nice nippy little car
