Suzuki Vitara (2015-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Good to drive, and comfortable too | Disappointing interior quality |
| Lively 1.4-litre engine | 1.0-litre model is quite slow |
| Lots of space inside | Vague steering |
Quick Summary
The Suzuki Vitara (2015-present) is a compact SUV that offers a compelling alternative to mainstream rivals like the Nissan Juke and Ford Puma. It provides impressive practicality, with enough room for four adults and a useful boot capacity of 362 litres in mild-hybrid models. All versions are well-equipped, with the mid-range SZ-T trim offering a good balance of features including a touchscreen infotainment system. However, the cabin is let down by some low-rent plastics and a dated-feeling touchscreen interface compared to newer competitors.
On the road, the Vitara is more engaging to drive than many rivals, with agile handling and good body control, although the steering feels vague and the firm ride can be jittery on rough surfaces. The 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine is a highlight, providing responsive performance. A key selling point is the availability of Suzuki’s AllGrip four-wheel-drive system, a rarity in this class. Running costs are sensible, and petrol models benefit from a timing chain, avoiding the costly belt changes required for the earlier 1.6-litre diesel.
Best for: Buyers seeking a practical, reliable, and well-equipped compact SUV, particularly those who want the option of four-wheel drive.
Not ideal for: Those prioritising a premium-feeling cabin, a cosseting ride quality, or the sharpest steering response.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Suzuki Vitara | 4/5 | 4.6/5 | 34.1% | 4.3/5 |

The Verdict
You should buy the Vitara if: You want a practical and reliable small SUV that's good to drive and comes with the rare-in-class option of four-wheel drive.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise a premium-feeling interior, the most comfortable ride, or sharp, communicative steering.
Competitive Position: The Suzuki Vitara is a highly capable and often overlooked contender in the crowded compact SUV market. It stands out with its blend of practicality, reliability, and engaging driving dynamics. While its interior quality doesn't match the polish of rivals like the Seat Arona, its generous standard equipment and the unique availability of a four-wheel-drive system give it a distinct advantage, making it a smart and versatile choice.

4.6 Overall rating
(12 reviews)Unlike many 4wd cars that are the size of tanks, the Vitara is compact outside which makes for easier parking and driving in narrow spaces. Its comfortable and has great all-round views through large windows. Theres some road and wind noise which spoils the experience but its a feel-good drive that handles easily. The shape is a personal choice but I think it stands out from most big-car style 4wds. Boot space could be bigger but its not a deal changer for me. I really like this car and Ive had about 15-20 in my lifetime (some wrecks, some gems) but Id recommend the Vitara.
Reasonably good value for price compared with market competition . Sufficient extras for the senior driver.
Test driven an auto Suzuki vitara last week, very impressive car which was a full hybrid, did some research on hybrids which are ok if you do regular driving but not for me, as I do not. Having said that, they are an excellent buy, with lots of extras.
Excellent features on this car. A very smooth drive. 4x4 but smallish and compact. Great boot size. Cruise control good - extra on 2019 us lane assist and blind spot.
very good and what I was looking for. Thank you
