Vauxhall Astra (2022-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| User friendly cabin and infotainment | Others are roomier and more practical |
| Comfortable ride | Rear visibility could be better |
| Choice of petrol, hybrid or electric power | Range could be better on EV and PHEVs |
Quick Summary
The eighth-generation Vauxhall Astra (2022-present) is a modern family hatchback built on the Stellantis platform, sharing underpinnings with the Peugeot 308. It offers a diverse range of powertrains including a 1.2-litre turbo petrol, a mild hybrid, plug-in hybrids (PHEV), and a pure electric (Astra-e) option. Its striking "Vauxhall Vizor" styling and slim LED lights give it a distinctive, chiselled look, available as a five-door hatchback or a more spacious Sports Tourer estate.
The Astra provides a confident and relaxed driving experience with a comfortable ride, especially in petrol and mild hybrid versions. Its cabin features a user-friendly infotainment system with physical controls, and all trims are well-equipped, offering strong value. While practicality is good for a family car, some rivals offer more rear room or boot space in electrified variants. Running costs can be low, especially for the electric model with off-peak charging, though real-world EV and PHEV ranges may be less than official figures.
Best for: Drivers on a budget, those seeking a versatile family car with a choice of powertrains, or buyers who appreciate modern styling and a well-equipped, user-friendly interior.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising maximum rear passenger space or boot capacity in PHEV/EV models, those seeking the sharpest handling in the class, or those needing a longer real-world EV/PHEV range.

You should buy the Astra if: You're on a budget, seeking a versatile family car with a choice of powertrains, or appreciate modern styling and a well-equipped, user-friendly interior.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise maximum rear passenger space or boot capacity in PHEV/EV models, desire the sharpest handling in the class, or require a longer real-world EV/PHEV range.
Competitive Position: The latest Vauxhall Astra (2022-present) is a strong contender in the family hatchback segment, offering impressive value, a wide range of powertrains, and a comfortable, well-equipped cabin. While it may not lead the class in terms of ultimate practicality or dynamic handling compared to some rivals, its modern design, user-friendly technology, and diverse options make it a highly recommendable and comprehensive choice for many buyers.

4.2 Overall rating
(52 reviews)The car is working great No issues, minor scratches expected, very clean inside Would recommend Happy as
I turned up they had pressure washed the engine, it was dry when I inspected before taking it for a test drive. When I drove off test drived got back it was smoking everywhere and the man tried to tell me it was spilt engine oil.... It was not!
I wanted to buy this car but I observed from my research that one of its issues is oil leakage which is either coming from its engine or gear box components. Its also not so cheap to fix as it cannot be ignored.
ive got astra 2.0 cdti elite 13 reg never had any problems withit in 6 years been a joy to own
The car is a good deal for the money. I like it
