Vauxhall Vivaro (2014-2019) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Wide choice of sizes and layouts | Low-quality cabin plastics |
| Refined and economical turbodiesel engines | Diesels need to be worked hard when the van is fully loaded |
| Enjoyable to drive | Payload is nothing special |
Quick Summary
The Vauxhall Vivaro (2014-2019) is a practical and versatile commercial van that shares its underpinnings with the Renault Trafic. Available with long and short wheelbases and high and low roofs, it offers flexible configurations including panel van, six-seat Combi, and nine-seat minibus variants. The low floor and wide sliding doors make loading straightforward, whilst the cabin design is more MPV-like than utilitarian, featuring a six-way adjustable seat and adjustable steering column for comfort. Despite workmanlike plastic quality, the Vivaro delivers a supple ride whether empty or fully loaded.
The engine range comprises turbocharged 1.6-litre diesels in various outputs, with Euro 5 and later Euro 6 compliant versions available. These refined and economical units deliver at least 40mpg officially, with the BiTurbo 120 achieving 47.9mpg. Real-world fuel consumption typically ranges from mid-30s to 40mpg depending on usage patterns. Service intervals are generous, though independent garages recommend more frequent oil changes. The Vivaro represents excellent value as a used van, combining car-like driving dynamics with practical versatility, though some owners note that turbocharged engines require working harder when hauling heavy loads.
Best for: One-man band operators, fleet drivers, and businesses seeking a refined, economical, and enjoyable-to-drive commercial vehicle with flexible load configurations.
Not ideal for: Operators requiring maximum payload capacity or those preferring naturally aspirated engines that handle heavy loads with ease.

The Verdict
You should buy the Vivaro if: You're a one-man band operator or fleet driver seeking a refined, economical, and enjoyable-to-drive commercial vehicle with flexible load configurations and excellent value.
Consider alternatives if: You require maximum payload capacity or prefer naturally aspirated engines that handle heavy loads with greater ease.
Competitive Position: The Vauxhall Vivaro (2014-2019) is a strong contender in the mid-size commercial van market, offering excellent value and outstanding user satisfaction. Its car-like driving dynamics, refined turbodiesel engines, and flexible configurations make it highly appealing to one-man operators and fleet drivers alike. Whilst the Renault Trafic shares its platform and the Ford Transit offers strong user ratings, the Vivaro's combination of refinement, economy, and practicality at competitive pricing makes it a highly sensible choice. The Volkswagen Transporter commands a premium but offers premium appeal. For budget-conscious operators prioritising driving enjoyment and versatility, the Vivaro represents exceptional value in the commercial vehicle sector.

5 Overall rating
(7 reviews)This van was excellent just what I wanted but unfortunately the latest Vivaro L2 is 60mm shorter in load era than the older L2 model.
Excellent van, first class condition, been looked after well.
All the features needed. Love the automatic locking doors. Well worth the money. Always had a Renault Trafic but this is better
Great Van, High level of equipment, refined driving experience and good mpg!
Every van of this sort fails M.O.T. on the same things, so you know exactly what you are buying and what to expect from your M.O.T.s. the parts are very cheap also. The van inside, is definitely a 9/10. The only thing I found a problem with is the storage, it should have one compartment above the steering wheel. The space in the back is excellent, plenty of space. The drive is absolutely spot on, it has an eco button which does actually work.
