The first-generation Volkswagen T-Roc might not boast head-turning design or class-leading handling, but just like a Volkswagen Golf, it’s as dependable and solid a car as you could hope for. This small SUV has proved immensely popular since it was launched in 2017, with Volkswagen selling more than two million examples to date.

Following a facelift in 2022 the T-Roc gained more technology and a refreshed look both inside and out. However, its fundamental positives didn’t change. The range caters for almost every need, too, with front- and all-wheel drive cars, petrol and diesel models, performance-focused and economical powertrains, and even a T-Roc convertible. However there was never a T-Roc hybrid in this model, which was phased out in 2025, so look elsewhere if you want electrified efficiency.
