No engine with a “billion” moving parts, no transmission, no extras such as turbo chargers or intricate air intake systems just highly reliable electric motors means very little need for maintenance. Brakes last years and years because there is no need to use them much. A full tank costs a fraction of a fill up at the local pump. The included high tech is second to none. Software updates keep up with Jones and resolve what can be major issues with other cars.

Quick Summary
The Tesla Model S is a groundbreaking all-electric saloon that revolutionised expectations of what an electric car could achieve. From its inception, it impressed with its combination of comfort, advanced technology, and remarkable performance. Even the entry-level model offered a claimed range of 240 miles, far exceeding competitors like the Nissan Leaf. The Model S is exceptionally practical, with a spacious interior for four adults, an enormous 709-litre boot, and an additional 89-litre frunk, providing up to 1,739 litres of luggage capacity when rear seats are folded. Its minimalist interior design is both elegant and functional, with clever storage solutions throughout.
Performance is extraordinary, with even basic rear-wheel-drive versions accelerating from 0-60mph in 5.9 seconds, whilst higher-specification models achieve this in just 4.2 seconds. The Model S drives remarkably well for its size and weight, offering precise steering, a relaxing ride, and excellent stopping power. Running costs are significantly lower than conventional vehicles, with no fuel expenses, zero VED charges, and minimal servicing requirements. The extensive Supercharger network makes long-distance travel viable, and Tesla's over-the-air updates continually enhance the vehicle's capabilities. However, potential buyers should be aware of occasional build quality issues and the high insurance costs associated with this powerful, niche vehicle.
Best for: Drivers seeking an electric car with exceptional performance, long range, and advanced technology; those who value low running costs and minimal servicing; and buyers willing to invest in premium electric mobility.
Not ideal for: Those prioritising a traditionally finished interior; buyers concerned about reliability and support; or those seeking the most engaging driving dynamics compared to rivals like the Porsche Taycan.

The Verdict
You should buy the Model S if: You're seeking an electric car with exceptional performance, long range, and advanced technology; you value low running costs and minimal servicing; or you're willing to invest in premium electric mobility.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise a traditionally finished interior, are concerned about reliability and support, or seek the most engaging driving dynamics compared to rivals like the Porsche Taycan.
Competitive Position: The Tesla Model S remains a compelling choice in the premium electric vehicle market, offering mind-bending acceleration, excellent range, and a comprehensive charging network. Whilst the Porsche Taycan delivers a more rewarding driving experience and potentially better reliability, and the Jaguar I-Pace offers comparable user satisfaction with slightly better value, the Model S's combination of performance, practicality, and lower cost makes it an excellent option for those prioritising range and technology. The Audi E-Tron Sportback, meanwhile, offers a more traditional luxury experience but with less impressive performance credentials.
