Very practical and comfortable yet pleasurable to drive . Better value than the Karoq andVolvo XC 40 and better quality than other SUVs

A hard ride with a lot of tyre noise and it was hard to keep the car straight on a potholed road. Very unimpressed by the combination of automatic gearbox and stop/start as these two seemed to fight each other at almost every junction or roundabout, with the engine shuddering to a stop then immediately re-starting. A pity as my old Seat Alhambra is a dream to drive and has been faultless over the last 6 years,

Seat Ateca (2016-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Well equipped | Warranty protection not as long as for Kia or Hyundai |
| Fun to drive | Base 1.0-litre petrol engine can be a bit breathless |
| Spacious for people and luggage | Ride firmer than with some rivals |
Quick Summary
The Seat Ateca (2016-present) is Seat's sporty take on the mid-size SUV segment, sharing major components with the Volkswagen Tiguan and Skoda Karoq. It combines stylish design with engaging driving dynamics, offering sharp steering, excellent body control, and spirited performance across its turbocharged petrol and diesel engine range. The 510-litre boot provides competitive cargo space, whilst the five-seat interior comfortably accommodates adults, though some rivals offer marginally more room. Well-equipped from base level with automatic city braking and pedestrian detection, higher trims add climate control, touchscreen infotainment with satnav, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
Running costs are reasonable, with diesel engines achieving up to 65.7mpg and petrol variants offering creditable economy for their performance. Service costs are fixed-price from Seat, with minor services from £175 and major services from £295. The Ateca earned a five-star EuroNCAP safety rating and was named overall Car of the Year in the 2019 CarGurus Best Used Car Awards. Resale values remain strong due to its popularity, making it an excellent choice for buyers seeking a stylish, practical, and enjoyable mid-size SUV.
Best for: Drivers seeking a sporty yet practical mid-size SUV with engaging handling, good equipment levels, and reasonable running costs; families wanting space and versatility with driving enjoyment.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising maximum interior space, the longest warranty protection, or those seeking the softest ride quality in the segment.

Consider alternatives if: You prioritise maximum interior space, the longest warranty protection, or desire the softest ride quality in the segment.
Competitive Position: The Seat Ateca is a strong contender in the mid-size SUV market, offering an engaging driving experience and excellent value. Whilst the Skoda Karoq and Volkswagen Tiguan score higher on expert and user ratings, the Ateca's sporty character and well-equipped nature make it an excellent choice for drivers prioritising fun alongside practicality. Its higher percentage of good and great deals (38.5%) suggests strong value in the used market. The Nissan Qashqai offers a softer ride, but the Ateca's superior handling and equipment justify its position as a top choice for those seeking an engaging, stylish, and versatile mid-size SUV.
