Yep, it’s another new electric car from China – but this time it’s not an SUV! The Leapmotor B05 is a pure-electric hatchback that’s due to arrive in the UK in 2026, with a likely starting price of less than £30,000 and a maximum range of about 300 miles.
Here’s all the information we have so far on the 2026 Leapmotor B05.

2026 Leapmotor B05: styling and dimensions
Leapmotor – the Chinese car brand part-owned by Stellantis (parent group of Citroen, Fiat, Jeep, Peugeot and Vauxhall) – describes the B05 as a ‘sporty-looking C-hatch’ with a ‘muscular silhouette’. We might not go that far, but it’s certainly quite sleek and the gloss-black trim around the sides and bumpers and coupe-style frameless side doors add a bit of glamour.
While there’s more than a hint of Volkswagen Golf at the front, the B05 has the same ‘saber brow’ front light signature as the larger Leapmotor B10 SUV, with three small, separate horizontal bars within each headlight. There’s a similar light signature at the rear, as part of a light bar that stretches across the width of the car.

An overall length of 4.43m makes the Leapmotor about 15cm (almost 6 inches) longer than an MG4 or Volkswagen Golf. In fact, it's exactly the same length as another new electric hatchback – the Kia EV4. The B05 is slightly wider and taller than all of those cars, and has a longer wheelbase than all but the Kia.
2026 Leapmotor B05: interior design and practicality
Leapmotor hasn’t released any images of the B05’s interior, but it’s expected to have a very similar design and layout to that of the Leapmotor B10 (pictured), with which it shares its basic platform and many other parts. Expect a large, landscape-format centre touchscreen, pared-back look and a bare minimum of physical switches.
Thanks to its long wheelbase, generous width and comparatively high roofline, the B05 is likely to offer good passenger space but there’s no word from Leapmotor on boot capacity.
2026 Leapmotor B05: engines and driving dynamics
Leapmotor hasn’t released any technical data for the B05, but it’s expected to offer the same powertrain options as the B10 SUV. That means a 215bhp electric motor and the choice of either a 56.2kWh or 67.1kWh battery pack.
In the B10, maximum battery range is 224 miles with the smaller battery or 270 miles with the larger battery. The B05, being lighter and more aerodynamically efficient, should return quite a few miles more. It could top 300 miles in long-range form but is unlikely to match the 388-mile range of top-spec Kia EV4 models.
2026 Leapmotor B05: price and release date
Leapmotor is new to the UK, having only launched its first car – the T03 electric city car – here in March 2025, followed soon after by the C10 SUV, a large(ish) electric SUV and the mid-sized B10 SUV.
Prices for the B10 currently start at £31,495, so we'd expected the entry-level version of the closely-related B05 to come in at just under £30,000.
