Geely – the Chinese brand that part-owns Lotus, Volvo and Polestar – has introduced its own brand of cars to the UK, starting with the launch of the Geely EX5 SUV in late 2025.
The EX5 is a mid-size, all-electric SUV that is a rival for cars such as the Kia EV5, Skoda Enyaq and Tesla Model Y, offering similar practicality and features, but with a lower starting price of £31,990.

2025 Geely EX5: styling and dimensions
The Geely EX5 has a sleek, modern SUV look with hints of the Porsche Cayenne and Honda ZR-V in its rear section and tail lights. As with many electric cars, improving aerodynamic efficiency – and therefore battery range – is a priority so there are flush door handles, minimal air intakes at the front and a sleek shape overall.
Although slightly longer than most mid-size petrol-powered SUVs, the Geely EX5 has almost identical dimensions to the Kia EV5, sharing the same overall length of 4,615mm and a wheelbase of 2,750mm. In terms of height and width the EX5 is also a close match for the EV5, as well as other rivals such as the Skoda Enyaq and Tesla Model Y.
2025 Geely EX5: interior design and practicality
The EX5's interior has the kind of design features common to most new electric SUV models so there's a minimum of physical buttons, with most functions controlled by a central 15.4-inch touchscreen. There’s also a ‘squircle’-shaped steering wheel, as well as a 'floating' centre console with a storage area beneath it.
While a long wheelbase and flat floor provide excellent passenger space, the EX5’s boot capacity is down on its key rivals’. Geely quotes a capacity of 410 litres for UK models, whereas the Kia EV5 and Skoda Enyaq both have capacities of more than 500 litres.

2025 Geely EX5: motors, batteries and dynamics
Power for the EX5 comes from a 160kW (215bhp) electric motor. It drives the front wheel only and gives a spritely 0-62mph time of 6.9 seconds.
The only one battery available – a 60kWh unit that gives a maximum range of 267 miles. That’s almost identical to what you get with entry-level Skoda Enyaq models but it falls short of the 300+ miles you get with long-range Enyaq models and various other rivals. Maximum charging speed is a pretty decent 160kW, giving a 30-80% charging time of about 20 minutes.
Geely says that European versions of the EX5 were put through 'intensive development work’ to meet specific market demands, with partner company Lotus Engineering testing the car to tune the chassis to suit European roads and driving styles.
