2025 Kia EV5: styling
There’s a clear family resemblance between the Kia EV5 and its other electric SUV models – the EV3 and EV9, with many shared styling elements and an overall shape that’s very similar to the EV9’s. The EV5 has a look of its own, however, with distinctive triangular headlights (similar to those of the Kia EV6) and a full-width light bar at the rear.
2025 Kia EV5: dimensions
An overall length of 4,610mm means the EV5 is large for a mid-size SUV – it’s 300mm (about a foot) longer than the EV3 and 70mm (about three inches) longer than the Kia Sportage and slightly wider and taller than both.
Its closest natural rival is perhaps the Skoda Enyaq, which is just 48mm (less than two inches) longer than the EV5 and a similar width, if slightly lower.
2025 Kia EV5: interior design and practicality
Kia describes the EV5’s interior as “closer in concept and execution to a home ‘lounge’ than a traditional car cabin.” That may be a bit of a stretch, but it’s certainly as stylish as we’ve come to expect from the brand.
The dashboard design is similar to that of the EV3 and the EV4, both of which use the same basic platform as the EV5. As in those cars there’s a widescreen display that incorporates a separate driver display, climate control display and central touchscreen into one seamless 'panoramic' screen that stretches across more than half of the dashboard.
A wheelbase that's 70mm (almost three inches) longer than that of the EV3 (and the Kia Sportage) means that the EV5 should have lots of legroom, while a flat floor and large door openings should make it extremely family-friendly.
A boot capacity of 566 litres to the load cover is above-average for a mid-size SUV, albeit slightly down on what you get with a Sportage. The rear seats fold flat to create a totally flat extended load space, however, and there’s a 44-litre frunk under the bonnet.
2025 Kia EV5: motors, batteries and dynamics
The EV4 uses a version of the front-wheel-drive electric drivetrain found in the EV3 and EV4, but with a 160kw (215bhp) electric motor rather than the 150kW motor used for the EV3 and EV4. Initially, the EV5 will only be available with the longer-range 81.4kWh battery option – Kia hasn't confirmed whether it will introduce a shorter-range, lower-priced version with the smaller 58.3kWh battery that's also available for the EV3 and EV4.
Maximum battery range for the EV5 is 329 miles – competitive, but not a match for the longest-range versions of the Skoda Enyaq (359 miles) or Tesla Model Y (387 miles). Maximum charging speed is 150kW, and Kia quotes a 10%-80% charging time of 30 minutes using a rapid charger.
In some markets, the EV5 is available as a four-wheel-drive version with an extra 70kw (94bhp) motor driving the rear wheels, for a total output of 225kW (302bhp). This isn't available in the UK from launch and Kia hasn't specified whether it could arrive at a later date. It has, however, confirmed that a high-performance EV5 GT model will join the range.
