The Volkswagen ID.2all has been revealed as the first of ten all-new electric models set to be launched by Volkswagen by 2026. The ID2.all previews a new small EV from VW, which is targeted to have a starting price of less than £22,000.

The Volkswagen ID.2all previews what the firm’s small EV of the future will look like, but it’s still instantly recognisable as a Volkswagen, with a likeable face that’s shared with electric models such as the ID.3 and ID.Buzz.
Up front, you get an IQ. Light LED light bar that stretches across the front of the car, giving you consistent light on a variety of roads. The bonnet is more sculpted than it is on the Polo supermini, and bold creases that run down the sides of the car help make it look chunky.

The car’s thick C-pillar is a VW calling sign, while around the back of the ID.2all, you get another light bar that can perform a synchronised dance when you lock and unlock the car. Even the tail lights have a 3D design that helps them pop at night.
The ID.2all is 4060mm long, 1812mm wide and 1530mm high, making it similar to the Polo in terms of dimensions.

Usability and practicality are key to the smart interior of the new ID.2all. The cabin gets a thick padding of stitched upholstery and suede-look materials, which are bathed in mood light. Posh features include electrically adjustable massage seats and a panoramic glass roof.

A 13.0-inch touchscreen takes pride of place on top of the dashboard, and you’ll find a 10.9-inch digital instrument binnacle where you’d normally expect to find analogue dials.
VW has learned from the mistakes of the ID.3: instead of menus in the infotainment, you get proper buttons for the ventilation system and stereo volume, while the steering wheel also sticks with physical controls.
Under the centre console, you’ll find two wireless charging pads with magnets to hold your phone in place, and you’ll find multiple USB-C ports scattered around the interior.

Volkswagen says the ID.2all’s interior delivers maximum space efficiency, matching the larger Volkswagen Golf for interior room.
The front passenger seat backrest folds flat to accommodate items up to 2.2 metres long, and the back seats also split 60:40. The 440-litre boot is also large – 60 litres more than you get in a Volkswagen Golf – and increases to 1,330 litres with the back seats folded flat. There’s even a 50-litre storage space under the back seat for the VW’s charging cables.
Volkswagen ID.2all: motor, battery, range and drive
The Volkswagen ID.2all will be available with 38- or 56kWh battery packs, offering a maximum range of around 280 miles. DC charging will allow you to recharge the battery from 10-80 per cent in around 20 minutes, and the car’s sat-nav can plan routes taking account of availability and charging speeds.

Unlike the rear-wheel drive ID.3, the ID.2’s 223bhp electric motor spins the front wheels, giving acceleration of 0-62mph in seven seconds and a top speed of 99mph flat out.
Self-drive tech will be passed down from the larger ID models, meaning the ID.2all will be able to accelerate, steer and brake itself in lane, and in queuing traffic.
Volkswagen ID.2all: price and release date
A production version of the Volkswagen ID.2all will be revealed in 2025, and you can expect the car to go on sale soon after. VW is targeting a starting price of under £22,000, well under the £30,000 you’ll currently need for a small electric car like the Renault Zoe.
