The latter has a bit more gumption to the way it drives, but if you want a practical, sweet-driving small hatch with a posh image and without the trinketry and style-first fanfare, then the Audi is the car you’re after

High quality interior, in my opinion, better than the current model that replaces it. Refined engine and transmission (7 speed steptronic). Be careful which suspension/wheel set up you go for. We traded in another A1 for this example as the other had S Line sports suspension and very low profile tyres, giving a harsh ride. If you prefer comfort over outright handling, opt for the softer suspension and higher profile tyres, makes a world of difference.
