Audi A6 Avant (2025-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Low levels of wind and road noise | Boot is small by class standards |
| Lots of space for passengers | Interior quality not as good as previous A6 |
| Smart styling helps it to stand out | Limited engine range |
Quick Summary
The Audi A6 Avant (2025-present) is a premium estate car that combines elegant styling with a refined driving experience. It offers impressive passenger space with generous legroom and headroom, making it ideal for families seeking comfort on longer journeys. The car excels at motorway cruising, with excellent noise insulation and a smooth, quiet ride. Three powertrain options are available: a 2.0-litre petrol TFSI with front-wheel drive, a 2.0-litre diesel TDI with four-wheel drive, and a plug-in hybrid e-hybrid variant offering up to 63 miles of electric-only range.
However, the A6 Avant falls short in one critical area for an estate car: boot space. At just 503 litres for petrol models, 466 litres for diesel, and a mere 404 litres for the plug-in hybrid, it significantly underperforms rivals like the BMW 5 Series Touring and Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate. Fuel economy is also modest, with petrol models achieving 30-35mpg and diesel around 40-45mpg in real-world conditions. The infotainment system, whilst feature-rich, can feel labyrinthine to navigate, and the mild hybrid diesel system occasionally exhibits juddering at low speeds.
Best for: Buyers prioritising premium badge appeal, refined motorway cruising, and passenger comfort over boot capacity, or those seeking a stylish luxury estate with advanced technology.
Not ideal for: Families requiring maximum boot space, budget-conscious buyers, or those seeking the most fuel-efficient option in the luxury estate segment.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Audi A6 Avant | 3/5 | 3.5/5 | N/A | 3.8/5 |
| BMW 5 Series Touring | 4/5 | 4.4/5 | 35.8% | 4.5/5 |
| Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate | 4/5 | 4.7/5 | 34.3% | 4.4/5 |
| Volvo V90 | 4/5 | 4.7/5 | 33.2% | 4.4/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the A6 Avant if: You prioritise premium badge appeal, refined motorway cruising, and passenger comfort, or seek a stylish luxury estate with advanced technology and low noise levels.
Consider alternatives if: You require maximum boot space, seek the best value for money, or prioritise fuel efficiency in the luxury estate segment.
Competitive Position: The Audi A6 Avant (2025-present) occupies a challenging position in the luxury estate market. Whilst it delivers on style, refinement, and passenger comfort, it struggles with the fundamental requirement of an estate car: adequate boot space. Its rivals—the BMW 5 Series Touring, Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate, and Volvo V90—all score higher with expert reviewers and users alike, offering superior practicality and value. The A6 Avant's limited engine range and modest fuel economy further diminish its appeal against better-equipped competitors. For buyers willing to compromise on boot capacity in favour of premium styling and motorway refinement, the A6 Avant remains a compelling choice, but it represents a missed opportunity in a segment where practicality is paramount.
