Audi A7 (2018-present) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Looks much sharper than a conventional saloon	Disappointing infotainment system
Packed with high-tech features and equipment	Not as involving as a Porsche Panamera
Super-frugal plug-in hybrid	Big wheels and sports suspension compromise comfort

Quick Summary

The Audi A7 (2018-present) is a stylish four-door coupé that sits between the A6 executive saloon and the A8 limousine. This second-generation model combines the size of the A6 with the luxury features of the A8, wrapped in a sleeker, more contemporary design. It features a low roofline, front and rear doors, and a practical hatchback boot offering 535 litres of space, expandable to 1,390 litres with the rear seats folded. Tall adults enjoy adequate headroom and legroom in the rear, though the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo offers slightly more space for three passengers.

The A7 prioritises comfort and refinement over driving engagement, with a composed and dependable feel when cornering. Entry-level models feature the most comfortable suspension setup, whilst S line and Black Edition variants offer a sportier but firmer ride. The Vorsprung model includes air suspension for improved motorway comfort. Inside, immaculate build quality and premium materials create a luxurious environment, though the dual-touchscreen infotainment system prioritises style over intuitive usability. Fuel efficiency varies by model: the 50 TFSIe plug-in hybrid achieves an impressive 156.9mpg, whilst petrol models range from 33.2 to 35.8mpg and diesels reach 50.4mpg. Service costs are reasonable, with flexible servicing available every two years or 18,600 miles.

Best for: Buyers seeking a spacious, luxurious cruiser with striking styling, those valuing comfort and refinement over sporty handling, and drivers interested in plug-in hybrid efficiency.

Not ideal for: Those prioritising engaging driving dynamics, buyers wanting a straightforward infotainment system, or those seeking maximum rear passenger space.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the A7 if: You're seeking a stylish, luxurious cruiser with striking design, prioritising comfort and refinement, or interested in plug-in hybrid efficiency and low running costs.

Consider alternatives if: You want engaging driving dynamics, prefer intuitive infotainment systems, or require maximum rear passenger space and better value for money.

Competitive Position: The Audi A7 (2018-present) is a compelling choice in the luxury four-door coupé segment, offering exceptional build quality, striking styling, and practical hatchback versatility. Whilst it doesn't match the Porsche Panamera's driving excitement or the Mercedes-Benz CLS's user ratings and value proposition, the A7 excels as a refined, comfortable long-distance cruiser. Its plug-in hybrid option provides impressive efficiency, and it holds its value well compared to rivals. The BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo offers more rear space, but the A7's superior design and technology make it an excellent choice for those prioritising style and luxury over sportiness.
