Audi Q3 (2025-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Impressive touchscreen system | Small boot in PHEV model |
| Generous standard equipment | A BMW X1 is more fun to drive |
| Impressive EV range from plug-in hybrid version | Doesn't significantly move the game on from its predecessor |
Quick Summary
The Audi Q3 (2025-present) is a premium compact family SUV that competes well against rivals like the BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA, and Volkswagen Tiguan. It offers a comprehensive engine range including a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol, 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol with up to 261bhp, a 2.0-litre TDI diesel, and a plug-in hybrid variant with an impressive 73-mile electric range. The Q3 provides 488-575 litres of boot space with sliding rear seats, a well-appointed interior with three-zone climate control, and advanced technology including Matrix LED headlights on higher trims.
The Q3 is competent and well-equipped, with efficient engines and good residual values. However, it fails to excel in any particular area and doesn't significantly advance over its predecessor. Rivals from less premium brands offer similar practicality and features for less money. The ride can be lively on poor road surfaces, and only the entry-level 1.5 TFSI Sport trim comes in under £40,000, meaning most Q3s incur the expensive car VED supplement. For a fully electric option, the Audi Q4 e-tron is available instead.
Best for: Buyers seeking a premium compact SUV with generous standard equipment, a wide engine choice including a plug-in hybrid, and strong brand appeal.
Not ideal for: Those prioritising driving engagement (BMW X1 offers more fun), maximum boot space, or seeking the best value for money compared to non-premium alternatives.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Audi Q3 | 3/5 | 4.3/5 | 33.7% | 4.4/5 |
| BMW X1 | 4/5 | 4.5/5 | 33.9% | 4.5/5 |
| Volkswagen Tiguan | 4/5 | 4.8/5 | 34.0% | 4.4/5 |
| Mercedes-Benz GLA | 4/5 | 4.4/5 | 34.1% | 4.4/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Q3 if: You value premium brand appeal, want generous standard equipment, seek a wide engine choice including a plug-in hybrid, and prioritise strong residual values.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise driving engagement, need maximum boot space, or want the best value for money compared to non-premium rivals.
Competitive Position: The Audi Q3 is a competent and well-equipped premium compact SUV with impressive technology and a comprehensive engine range. However, it struggles to differentiate itself from rivals like the BMW X1, which offers more engaging driving dynamics, or the Volkswagen Tiguan, which delivers better user satisfaction and value. The Q3's premium positioning comes at a cost, with most models incurring the expensive car VED supplement. Whilst it's a perfectly recommendable choice for those seeking Audi's brand prestige and standard equipment levels, it's worth test-driving competitors before committing, as alternatives offer similar practicality and features at lower prices.

What people say
I do believe the car is very good value for money, the cabin quality is second to none. Also as you'd expect from Audi the bill quality is excellent. What it does like is cruise control it should be standard required this quality. There's also the necessity for mapping certain features like getting the wing mirrors to work automatically when you switch off the engine.
Good looking car with great features. It’s a well built car that holds its value well. The Sportback is a classic design
Excellent car, lovely to drive. Would definitely recommend Audi.
Missing cruise control although mentioned on Car guru website. Other than that the Q3 is a quality car, well built and should achieve 150K miles without a problem.
2021 Audi Q3 Sportback 40TDi, great car to drive, practice and comfortable.
