Audi Q4 E-Tron (2021-present) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Plush cabin packed with tech	Skoda Enyaq has longer range for less cash
Capable of charging at 100kW or 125kW	Irritating touch-sensitive steering wheel controls
Roomy enough for a family of four	Doesn't stand out from crowded rivals

Quick Summary

The Audi Q4 E-Tron is a premium mid-sized family SUV and a well-rounded electric car. Available as a standard model or sleeker Sportback variant, it sits on the Volkswagen Group's MEB platform, shared with the Skoda Enyaq iV and VW ID.4. Battery options range from a 52kWh pack offering 208 miles of range to a 77kWh unit providing up to 316 miles. The range-topping Q4 50 E-Tron adds four-wheel drive and 295bhp for a 6.2-second 0-62mph time. The mid-range Q4 40 E-Tron strikes an excellent balance between price and range, delivering 201bhp and smooth, confident driving dynamics with responsive steering and composed ride comfort.

The Q4 E-Tron excels in technology and comfort, featuring a responsive 10.1-inch touchscreen, virtual cockpit digital dials, three-zone climate control with traditional knobs, and comprehensive safety equipment. Running costs are competitive, with home charging costing around 5p per mile and significant tax savings compared to petrol or diesel rivals. However, the cabin, whilst well-appointed, lacks the interior quality of the Mercedes EQA, and adaptive cruise control and reversing camera require a £1,295 options package. The Skoda Enyaq iV offers similar driving dynamics and longer range at a considerably lower price, making it a compelling alternative for budget-conscious buyers.

Best for: Premium brand buyers seeking a well-rounded electric family SUV with strong technology, good range, and rapid charging capability.

Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers prioritising maximum range and value, or those seeking the finest interior quality in the segment.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Q4 E-Tron if: You prioritise premium brand appeal, seek a well-rounded electric family SUV with strong technology, good range, and rapid charging capability.

Consider alternatives if: You're budget-conscious and prioritise maximum range and value, or require the finest interior quality in the segment.

Competitive Position: The Audi Q4 E-Tron is a fine premium family SUV and a thoroughly well-rounded electric car. The range and charging speeds are excellent, the hi-tech interior is a particular highlight, and there's ample room for a family of four. However, the Skoda Enyaq iV feels similarly well built, offers longer range, drives very similarly, and can be had for considerably less cash. The Mercedes EQA and Ford Mustang Mach-E also offer compelling alternatives. The Q4 E-Tron is thoroughly recommendable if you can secure a competitive price, but it fails to stand out from an increasingly crowded field of rivals.
