BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo (2018-2020) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| An interesting alternative to a conventional executive car | The xDrive 4x4 versions cost more to fuel than two-wheel-drive models |
| The hatchback layout is practical and there's plenty of luggage space | Not as compelling to drive as a BMW 5 Series |
| Four-wheel drive is available with some engines | Divisive looks may put you off |
Quick Summary
The BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo (2018-2020) is a niche executive car that succeeded the 5 Series GT, combining BMW underpinnings with a coupe-like body and a practical hatchback. While its styling might be divisive, it offers exceptional accommodation with generous space for occupants and a substantial 610-litre boot, expanding to 1800 litres with the seats folded. The interior is finished to BMW’s high standards, providing a truly premium feel.
Powered by efficient four- and six-cylinder engines, including the 630d which can achieve close to 50mpg, running costs are reasonable for its class. Two well-equipped trim levels, SE and M Sport, offered standard features like adaptive LED headlights and satnav. However, despite its excellent engines, the car's large size and weight mean it prioritises comfort and pace over the sharp driving dynamics found in some rivals or even BMW's own 5 Series.
Best for: Buyers needing a large, practical, and comfortable luxury car with impressive space and premium features, especially those who appreciate a hatchback layout in an executive package.
Not ideal for: Those prioritising elegant, sleek styling, sharp driving dynamics, or a more conventional executive saloon or touring car.

The Verdict
You should buy the BMW 6 Series GT if: You need a large, practical, and comfortable luxury car with impressive space and premium features, especially if you appreciate a hatchback layout in an executive package.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise elegant, sleek styling, sharp driving dynamics, or a more conventional executive saloon or touring car.
Competitive Position: The BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo (2018-2020) offers a unique proposition in the executive car market, blending BMW luxury and comfort with the practicality of a large hatchback. While its divisive styling and less engaging driving dynamics might not appeal to all, its spacious interior, high-quality finish, and reasonable running costs for its class make it a compelling choice for those prioritising comfort, space, and premium features over outright sportiness or conventional aesthetics. It stands as an interesting alternative to traditional saloons and estates, providing a distinct blend of attributes.

4.9 Overall rating
(12 reviews)For such a big car it certainly doesnt feel like it. The performance for a big car is incredible so to get decent economy requires some restraint. Very smooth as you would expect from something that costs £60k+ when new. Spec differs so much between cars so read up a bit and happy car hunting.
Overpriced in COVID global market with early stages of recession
The hybrid version which BMW in my view erroneously have decided to sell in Europe but not the Uk would have been the ideal replacement for my 5GT. It looks as if I will have to look at the Audi or Merc ranges . A pity has I and my family, plus the company , have been almost exclusively BMW purchasers for well over 20 years
The car is what I required as a single 60 year old man, style comfort, power and some flair with the top down
Yes, the car has a good value. I enjoy riding it.
