The third-generation BMW X5 is an upmarket large SUV that competes with many premium offerings, ranging from the Audi Q7 to the Range Rover Sport and Velar. Like its predecessor, the X5 was designed to blend comfort and badge appeal with a gratifying driving experience and a modicum of off-road capability. It’s an impressive car but, like many rival offerings, its running costs can be high.
