Citroen Berlingo (2018-Present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|

| Affordable to buy and run | Seven-seat XL models are expensive |
| Sliding rear doors | - Leans a lot when cornering |
Quick Summary
The third-generation Citroen Berlingo, launched in 2018 and refreshed in 2023, is a highly practical passenger car that ingeniously disguises its commercial-vehicle origins with quirky styling cues. Available as a five-seater or a seven-seat XL, it prioritises function over form, offering immense boot space (775 to 3,500 litres depending on configuration) and flexible seating, including convenient sliding rear doors. Its cabin is packed with numerous storage solutions, making it an ideal family vehicle.
While not built for sporty driving, the Berlingo’s soft suspension provides a comfortable and surprisingly quiet ride, soaking up bumps effectively despite noticeable body roll in corners. Post-facelift, it offers a range of efficient petrol (1.2-litre turbo) and diesel (1.5-litre BlueHDi) engines, with the diesels particularly praised for smoothness, performance, and excellent fuel economy. Running costs are generally low, with insurance group ratings starting from 10, making it an affordable and versatile choice for families and those needing ample cargo space.
Best for: Drivers seeking ultimate practicality, families needing extensive space and flexible seating, and those looking for an affordable and versatile vehicle with low running costs.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising sporty handling, dynamic driving characteristics, or a premium badge over sheer practicality and space.

Consider alternatives if: You prioritise sporty handling, dynamic driving characteristics, or a premium badge over sheer practicality and space.
Competitive Position: The Citroen Berlingo (2018-present) stands out in the people carrier segment for its unparalleled practicality, versatile configurations, and low running costs, effectively blending van-like utility with family car comfort. While it foregoes sporty handling and premium badge appeal, its honest and unpretentious design, coupled with efficient engines and extensive storage, makes it an excellent value proposition for budget-conscious families or those requiring significant cargo capacity, positioning it as a highly sensible and adaptable choice against its rivals.

4.5 Overall rating
(18 reviews)The drivers seat could do with an armrest. The DAB stereo switches off for no reason intermediately. It is a very good van and great value for money.
Perfect for what I need it for, three seats handy for the school run
Great to drive, lots of space for tools. Overall a terrific van. I’ve had lots of vans but this is one of the best. Would definitely recommend this van for tradesmen. I wouldn’t recommend the seat covers as poor fit.
This car is very nice indeed, but it would be better if the back seats could be removed completely. My previous Berlingo, the back seats could be taken out, completely and easily, so it could be used as a van.
Great car. Economical. Carries full spare wheel. Easy to navigate menu
