Citroen Berlingo (2018-Present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Enormous boot and flexible seating | Some rivals have longer new-car warranties |
| Affordable to buy and run | Seven-seat XL models are expensive |
| Sliding rear doors | Leans a lot when cornering |
Quick Summary
The third-generation Citroen Berlingo, launched in 2018 and refreshed in 2023, is a highly practical van-based people carrier. It cleverly disguises its commercial origins with quirky styling cues from Citroen's passenger cars, offering a unique blend of family functionality and distinctive design. Available as a five or seven-seater, its enormous boot (775 litres to 3,500 litres with seats folded) and flexible seating arrangements, including sliding rear doors, make it exceptionally versatile for families or those needing significant cargo space.
Despite its boxy profile, the Berlingo offers a surprisingly comfortable and quiet ride, with soft suspension effectively absorbing road imperfections. While it exhibits body roll in corners, it prioritises comfort over sportiness, providing a pleasant driving experience at everyday speeds. A range of efficient petrol and diesel engines are available, with diesels offering excellent fuel economy. Inside, it boasts extensive storage solutions, a 10-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and robust safety features, all contributing to its appeal as an affordable and sensible family car with low running costs.
Best for: Families needing huge space and flexibility, budget-conscious buyers, those who value practicality over driving dynamics, and buyers seeking low running costs.
Not ideal for: Drivers prioritising sporty handling, those who prefer premium badge appeal, or buyers seeking a longer new-car warranty.

Consider alternatives if: You seek sporty driving dynamics, a luxurious interior feel, or a longer new-car warranty.
Competitive Position: The Citroen Berlingo is a compelling choice in the van-based MPV segment, standing out for its unmatched practicality, enormous and flexible interior, and low running costs. While rivals might offer a more refined driving experience or premium badge, the Berlingo excels in its honest, unpretentious approach to family motoring. Its comfortable ride and efficient engines, combined with its affordability, make it an excellent value proposition for those who prioritise space and utility above all else.

4.5 Overall rating
(18 reviews)The drivers seat could do with an armrest. The DAB stereo switches off for no reason intermediately. It is a very good van and great value for money.
Perfect for what I need it for, three seats handy for the school run
Great to drive, lots of space for tools. Overall a terrific van. I’ve had lots of vans but this is one of the best. Would definitely recommend this van for tradesmen. I wouldn’t recommend the seat covers as poor fit.
This car is very nice indeed, but it would be better if the back seats could be removed completely. My previous Berlingo, the back seats could be taken out, completely and easily, so it could be used as a van.
Great car. Economical. Carries full spare wheel. Easy to navigate menu
