The drivers seat could do with an armrest. The DAB stereo switches off for no reason intermediately. It is a very good van and great value for money.

Citroën Berlingo (2018-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Enormous boot and flexible seating | Some rivals have longer new-car warranties |
| Affordable to buy and run | Seven-seat XL models are expensive |
| Sliding rear doors | Leans a lot when cornering |
Quick Summary
The Citroën Berlingo (2018-present) is a no-nonsense, van-based people carrier that prioritises practicality above all else. Available as a five-seater or seven-seater XL variant, it offers exceptional versatility with sliding rear doors and a cavernous boot. The regular Berlingo provides 775 litres of storage space behind the rear seats, expanding to 3,000 litres with seats folded flat. The seven-seat XL boasts an impressive 1,050 litres behind the middle row, or a colossal 3,500 litres with the middle row folded. Beyond raw space, the Berlingo features ingenious storage solutions throughout, including roof lockers, cubby holes, and a parcel shelf that doubles as a nappy-changing mat.
The 2023 refresh brought updated styling whilst maintaining the car's honest, unpretentious design philosophy. Engine options include a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol with 109bhp and a choice of 1.5-litre diesel engines with 101bhp or 129bhp. Petrol versions achieve around 45mpg, whilst the efficient BlueHDi diesels exceed 50mpg. The Berlingo is comfortable and surprisingly quiet on the road, with soft suspension that soaks up bumps effectively. Whilst body lean during cornering limits sporting credentials, the car remains entertaining at ordinary speeds. Running costs are low, with insurance groups starting from 11, and the used market offers excellent value, particularly for diesel models.
Best for: Families juggling multiple needs, self-employed workers requiring flexible space, and buyers seeking maximum practicality and affordability.
Not ideal for: Those prioritising sporty handling, drivers seeking premium badge appeal, or buyers wanting the longest new-car warranties.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Citroën Berlingo | 4/5 | 4.6/5 | 35.5% | 4.4/5 |

| Skoda Karoq | 5/5 | 4.4/5 | 33.7% | 4.6/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Berlingo if: You're a family juggling multiple needs, self-employed and requiring flexible space, or seeking maximum practicality and affordability.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise sporty handling, seek premium badge appeal, or require the longest new-car warranties.
Competitive Position: The Citroën Berlingo (2018-present) is a standout choice in the practical people carrier segment, offering exceptional value and versatility. Whilst the Skoda Karoq edges ahead with a higher expert rating and overall score, the Berlingo's superior boot space, flexible seating, and affordable running costs make it the superior choice for families and self-employed buyers. The Peugeot Rifter shares the same platform and practicality, whilst the electric e-Rifter offers zero-emission motoring. However, the Berlingo's combination of affordability, honest design, and clever storage solutions remains unmatched for those prioritising function over form.
