The drivers seat could do with an armrest. The DAB stereo switches off for no reason intermediately. It is a very good van and great value for money.

Citroen Berlingo Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Enormous boot and flexible seating | Some rivals have longer new-car warranties |
| Affordable to buy and run | Seven-seat XL models are expensive |
| Sliding rear doors | Leans a lot when cornering |
Quick Summary
The Citroen Berlingo is a no-nonsense, van-based people carrier that prioritises practicality above all else. This third-generation model, refreshed in 2023, offers exceptional versatility as either a five-seater or seven-seater XL variant. With up to 3,500 litres of boot space when seats are folded, ingenious storage solutions throughout, and sliding rear doors, it's designed for families juggling multiple needs. The boxy exterior features quirky styling cues inspired by Citroen's passenger car range, whilst the spacious interior boasts comfortable seating and impressive noise insulation.
The Berlingo is available with economical petrol and diesel engines, with the 1.5-litre BlueHDi diesel delivering over 50mpg and smooth, quiet performance. Running costs are low, with insurance groups starting from 11, and used examples offer excellent value. Whilst it lacks the handling finesse of traditional SUVs and leans noticeably when cornering, the Berlingo compensates with comfort, practicality, and honest design. It's a refreshingly unpretentious car that excels at its purpose without pretence.
Best for: Families needing maximum practicality and flexible seating, self-employed workers combining business and personal use, and buyers seeking affordable, no-fuss motoring with exceptional storage.
Not ideal for: Those prioritising sporty handling, drivers wanting extended new-car warranties, or buyers seeking a traditional SUV driving experience.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Citroen Berlingo | 4/5 | 4.6/5 | 49.3% | 4.5/5 |

| Peugeot e-Rifter | 4/5 | 5.0/5 | 28.9% | 4.3/5 |
| Skoda Karoq | 5/5 | 4.4/5 | 34.1% | 4.6/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Berlingo if: You need maximum practicality and flexible seating, combine family and work requirements, or seek affordable, honest motoring with exceptional storage solutions.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise sporty handling, require extended new-car warranties, or prefer a traditional SUV driving experience.
Competitive Position: The Citroen Berlingo is a standout choice in the practical people carrier segment, offering exceptional value and versatility. Whilst the Skoda Karoq edges ahead with superior expert ratings and handling dynamics, the Berlingo surpasses it in practicality and affordability. Against the Peugeot Rifter, its platform sibling, the Berlingo offers comparable space and features at similar prices. The electric Peugeot e-Rifter appeals to eco-conscious buyers but commands a premium. For families and self-employed workers prioritising space, flexibility, and low running costs over driving dynamics, the Berlingo represents outstanding value and remains a highly sensible choice.
