The drivers seat could do with an armrest. The DAB stereo switches off for no reason intermediately. It is a very good van and great value for money.

Citroën Berlingo Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Enormous boot and flexible seating | Some rivals have longer new-car warranties |
| Affordable to buy and run | Seven-seat XL models are expensive |
| Sliding rear doors | Leans a lot when cornering |
Quick Summary
The Citroën Berlingo is one of the most practical passenger cars available, offering exceptional versatility without sacrificing comfort or refinement. Available as a five-seater or seven-seater XL variant, it features a sliding rear door, enormous tailgate, and ingeniously flexible seating that collapses almost completely flat. With up to 3,500 litres of boot space and countless storage solutions throughout the cabin, the Berlingo excels at juggling family needs with practical requirements. The third-generation model, refreshed in 2023, combines quirky styling with genuine functionality, featuring matt-black A-pillars, roof rails, and distinctive double-decker front lights that set it apart from its commercial-vehicle origins.
The Berlingo offers a choice of petrol and diesel engines, with the smooth and economical 1.5-litre BlueHDi diesel units delivering over 50mpg and punchy performance. Petrol versions achieve around 45mpg with a considered driving style. Whilst the soft suspension and body lean mean it's not built for spirited cornering, the Berlingo surprises with well-suppressed road and wind noise, making it comfortable and enjoyable for everyday driving. Insurance groups start from as low as 11, and running costs are impressively low, making it an excellent value proposition for families and self-employed users alike.
Best for: Families needing maximum practicality, self-employed workers requiring flexible space, and buyers seeking affordable, honest motoring with exceptional versatility.
Not ideal for: Those prioritising sporty handling, drivers seeking the longest new-car warranties, or buyers wanting a compact footprint with seven-seat capability on a budget.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Citroën Berlingo | 4/5 | 4.6/5 | 38.1% | 4.5/5 |
| Peugeot Rifter | 4/5 | 4.0/5 | 37.2% | 4.3/5 |
| Peugeot e-Rifter | 4/5 | 5.0/5 | 35.9% | 4.4/5 |
| Skoda Karoq | 5/5 | 4.6/5 | 38.1% | 4.6/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Berlingo if: You need maximum practicality and flexible space, work for yourself and require a versatile vehicle, or seek affordable, honest motoring with exceptional value.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise sporty handling, require the longest new-car warranties, or want a compact SUV with premium badge appeal.
Competitive Position: The Citroën Berlingo is a standout choice in the practical people-carrier segment, offering unmatched versatility and storage solutions at an affordable price. Whilst the Skoda Karoq edges ahead with superior expert ratings and a more premium feel, the Berlingo's sliding doors, enormous boot, and flexible seating make it the superior choice for families and self-employed users. The Peugeot Rifter shares the same platform and practicality, whilst the electric e-Rifter offers zero-emission motoring. However, the Berlingo's combination of affordability, low running costs, and genuine practicality make it an exceptionally sensible choice for budget-conscious buyers seeking maximum space and flexibility.
