Dacia Bigster (2025) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Roomy interior	Feels flimsy throughout
Great value	Average safety rating
Lots of equipment	Engine can be noisy

Quick Summary

The Dacia Bigster is a five-seat family SUV that delivers exceptional value for money. Based on the larger Duster platform, it offers a spacious interior with a cavernous 677-litre boot in mild hybrid form and 612 litres in the full hybrid version. The Bigster competes with vehicles like the Kia Sportage and Nissan Qashqai but undercuts them significantly on price. It features a well-designed touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, and a practical interior layout with excellent visibility and high-mounted seats that make entry and exit effortless.

Three engine options are available: a 1.2-litre three-cylinder mild hybrid with 138bhp front-wheel drive or 128bhp four-wheel drive, and a 153bhp 1.8-litre full hybrid with automatic transmission. The mild hybrid achieves around 45mpg in real-world driving, while the full hybrid delivers impressive figures of 55-60mpg. Comfort is a strong suit, particularly on motorways, though handling is soft and steering feedback is minimal. However, interior plastics feel cheap, and the safety rating is average for the class.

Best for: Budget-conscious families seeking maximum space and practicality, buyers prioritising comfort over driving dynamics, and those wanting excellent value for money in the SUV segment.

Not ideal for: Drivers prioritising premium build quality, keen drivers seeking engaging handling, or those concerned about crash test performance.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Bigster if: You're a budget-conscious family seeking maximum space and practicality, prioritising comfort over driving dynamics, or wanting excellent value in the SUV segment.

Consider alternatives if: You prioritise premium build quality, keen driving dynamics, or have concerns about crash test performance.

Competitive Position: The Dacia Bigster is a compelling proposition in the family SUV market, offering outstanding value and practicality that rivals struggle to match at this price point. Whilst the Kia Sportage offers superior build quality and handling, and the Citroën C5 Aircross provides a more premium feel, the Bigster delivers more space and equipment for significantly less money. It's an almost perfect family SUV, with the caveat that its safety rating and interior quality lag behind pricier competitors. For budget-conscious buyers willing to overlook these compromises, the Bigster represents a brilliant purchase.
