The Bao 5, the first SUV to arrive on British shores from BYD’s sub-brand Denza, is a bit of an odd fish. Its plush interior and extensive specification place it as an attempt at a premium SUV, but beneath the skin, its ladder-frame construction suggests it’s geared for heavy-duty off-road use, and renders it pretty unpleasant to drive on Tarmac. A Land Rover Defender is a better bet all round.
