Ford Kuga (2020-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Enjoyable to drive | The cabin feels a bit low-rent in places |
| Roomy and practical interior | Some rivals have more luggage space |
| Plug-in hybrid will appeal to company car drivers | It's hard to apply the plug-in hybrid's brakes smoothly |
Quick Summary
The Ford Kuga (2020-present) is a practical and engaging family SUV that combines genuine driving enjoyment with everyday usability. This generation finally delivered a machine capable of taking on class leaders, with the 2024 facelift strengthening the package further. It offers commanding driving position, excellent headroom and legroom, and flexible boot space ranging from 412 to 553 litres, expanding to 1,534 litres with rear seats folded. The Kuga delivers a well-tuned suspension that balances driver engagement with genuine comfort, making it an excellent long-distance cruiser with low noise levels.
The powertrain options include a turbocharged 1.5-litre EcoBoost petrol, a 2.5-litre hybrid, and a plug-in hybrid with 37.2-42.8 miles of electric-only range. The plug-in hybrid is particularly appealing for company car drivers, whilst the regular hybrid offers an excellent balance of economy and performance. Running costs are very affordable, especially for models below the £40,000 VED threshold. The latest SYNC 4 infotainment system features 5G connectivity, cloud navigation, and wireless smartphone integration. However, many desirable features like Matrix LED headlamps and head-up display are optional extras, and the cabin uses harder plastics in places.
Best for: Families seeking a practical, engaging SUV with excellent comfort and low running costs, company car drivers interested in the plug-in hybrid, and those wanting a capable alternative to mainstream rivals.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising premium cabin materials, those needing maximum boot space compared to rivals, or drivers seeking the smoothest brake feel in plug-in hybrid form.

| Peugeot 3008 | 3/5 | 4.8/5 | 35.6% | 4.3/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Kuga if: You're seeking a practical, engaging family SUV with excellent comfort and low running costs, you're a company car driver interested in the plug-in hybrid, or you want a capable alternative to mainstream rivals.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise premium cabin materials, need maximum boot space compared to rivals, or require the smoothest brake feel in plug-in hybrid form.
Competitive Position: The Ford Kuga (2020-present) is a solid contender in the crowded family SUV marketplace, offering genuine driving enjoyment combined with practicality and affordability. Whilst the Kia Sportage edges ahead with a higher expert rating and the Hyundai Tucson impresses with user satisfaction, the Kuga holds its own with superior driving dynamics and an excellent plug-in hybrid option. The Peugeot 3008 offers more deals, but the Kuga's balance of engagement, space, and value makes it a compelling choice for those who prioritise driving pleasure alongside family practicality. It remains an underdog that rewards those who take the time to discover it.

What people say
Plenty of room inside, good styling, seat arrangements give versatile usage of boot space, prices do fluctuate a lot depending on mileage.
Great car, very lively, lots of room. Very well made. Whats not to like
Comfortable to drive good to have a well looked after car, fuel consumption is decent obviously the car is heavy so that factors in. I took a few hours to get the hang of the controls and sat nav as well as linking phone and will probably need a few more to get total abillity to navigate but I'm very happy with the car also it was very clean in and out the only down fall and not much of one is the wing mirrors are electric but don't fold in electricly which when parking is nice to have in certain areas so they don't get hit when you have to do them manualy sometimes you forget
For a 2013 SUV, the Titanium X trim is well-equipped, especially considering it’s now over a decade old Decent price especially with full service history.
the car has great features, However it has s wet cam belt, which needs replacing before 60000 miles, At a cost of approx £1500. Thats just 4500 miles left.
