Ford Puma (2019-Present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Very practical, especially the big boot | Rear headroom could be more generous |
| Generous standard equipment | Short new-car warranty |
| Choice of petrol and electric versions | Some electric rivals offer longer ranges |
Quick Summary
The Ford Puma, launched in 2019, has become one of the UK's best-selling cars by successfully blending style, practicality, and an enjoyable driving experience. Despite being a compact crossover based on the Fiesta, it offers impressive interior space and a class-leading 456-litre boot. Its standout feature is the 80-litre waterproof 'MegaBox' hidden beneath the boot floor, which adds a level of versatility that few rivals can match.
All versions of the Puma are fun to drive, with crisp handling and a choice of efficient 1.0-litre mild-hybrid petrol engines or a fully electric 'Gen-E' model. Running costs are low, with petrol versions capable of up to 52mpg. A 2025 facelift updated the interior with a large 12.0-inch touchscreen and plusher materials, ensuring the Puma remains a top contender in its class. Generous standard equipment across the range adds to its strong value proposition.
Best for: Drivers wanting a small SUV that's fun to drive, buyers who prioritise boot space and practicality, and those looking for a stylish, well-equipped crossover with low running costs.
Not ideal for: Those who regularly need to carry tall adults in the back, buyers who want a long manufacturer warranty as standard, or EV buyers who need the longest possible range.

The Verdict
You should buy the Puma if: You want a small SUV that combines genuinely fun handling with class-leading practicality and stylish looks.
Consider alternatives if: Maximum rear passenger headroom is a priority, or you require an electric vehicle with a longer range than the Puma Gen-E offers.
Competitive Position: The Ford Puma is a standout in the compact SUV class, successfully blending driver appeal with family-friendly practicality. Its clever 'MegaBox' boot, efficient engines, and generous equipment make it a compelling package. While some rivals might offer more rear space or a longer warranty, the Puma's all-round ability and strong value cement its position as a class leader and a UK best-seller.

3.9 Overall rating
(7 reviews)Fully loaded and fun to drive. Good value for what you get. Interior quality not up to European equivalents but engine and gear box a real peach. Condensation in the front and rear lights annoying though.
Love the look, seats are comfy,. Touchscreen easy to navigate and set up. Nice smooth gear change. Be careful to pull the handbrake right up when parking on a hill. …
Fantastic, nippy , stylish small SUV driving is a joy especially with the very large screens on the dash
why should i pay a lot of money for a suv that doesnt have a reversing camera as standard, and have to pay 5 or 6 hundred pounds to get a drivers assit pack to get a camers
to menny extras need to be added to this car to make it a viable option. eg have to have a drivers assist pack to get a rear view camera. the rear view camera should be standard
