Honda ZR-V (2026) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Spacious interior	Disappointing fuel economy
Generous standard equipment	Petrol engine can be noisy
Comfortable and easy to drive	Some materials feel less premium than price suggests

Quick Summary

The Honda ZR-V is a midsize SUV designed to bridge the gap between Honda's smaller HR-V and larger CR-V. Sharing much of its platform and powertrain with the acclaimed 11th-generation Civic, it combines a 2.0-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine with two electric motors for a combined output of 184bhp. The self-charging hybrid system operates in EV, hybrid, and engine-drive modes, delivering relaxed performance with 0-62mph in 7.8-8.0 seconds. The interior mirrors the Civic's quality, featuring a 9.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, and impressive build quality throughout.

The ZR-V offers a spacious cabin with generous rear legroom and headroom, though its 380-litre boot is smaller than many rivals. The 60:40 split rear seats fold flat for a practical loadbay. Priced between £35,000 and £40,000, it's more expensive than competitors like the Nissan Qashqai, and fuel economy of just under 50mpg is disappointing for a hybrid. Whilst the driving experience is comfortable and composed with responsive steering and good grip, the extra weight compared to the Civic means it lacks handling sparkle. Standard equipment is generous across all three trim levels: Elegance, Sport, and Advance.

Best for: Buyers seeking a spacious, comfortable family SUV with quality interior design, generous standard equipment, and a relaxed driving experience.

Not ideal for: Those prioritising fuel economy, keen drivers wanting sharp handling, or budget-conscious buyers seeking the most affordable option in the midsize SUV class.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the ZR-V if: You prioritise a spacious, comfortable family SUV with quality interior design, generous standard equipment, and a relaxed driving experience.

Consider alternatives if: You're seeking superior fuel economy, sharp handling dynamics, or the most affordable option in the midsize SUV segment.

Competitive Position: The Honda ZR-V is a capable all-rounder in the hotly contested midsize SUV market, offering smart styling, sturdy build quality, and impressive standard equipment. However, it faces stiff competition from rivals like the Skoda Karoq, which scores higher on CarGurus ratings, and the more affordable Nissan Qashqai. The ZR-V's premium pricing, combined with disappointing fuel economy for a hybrid and less engaging handling than its Civic hatchback sibling, means it occupies a middle ground. For buyers valuing comfort, space, and quality over outright value or driving dynamics, the ZR-V remains a solid choice, though the Hyundai Tucson offers similar appeal with a higher overall rating.
