Looks great from any angle. The bargain 300hp 2.0 version has plenty of power and returns 35+mpg. Put it in Sports mode and it flies. Would have liked a bit more room inside for a coat, jumper, map etc; the rear shelf is not usable. But as a drivers car its fantastic.

Jaguar F-Type (2013-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Sublime styling | Only two seats |
| Great fun to drive | V8 drinks fuel |
| Relatively good value for what it is | Tiny boot in convertible models |
Quick Summary
The Jaguar F-Type (2013-present) is a stunning two-seater sports car that finally gave Jaguar a true successor to its legendary E-Type. Available in both coupe and convertible forms, the F-Type offers a compelling blend of striking design, engaging performance, and British sporting heritage. The 2020 facelift brought significant improvements, including a sharper exterior design, updated interior, and superior infotainment system. The range comprises three engine options: the P300 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, the P450 supercharged V8, and the range-topping P575 R supercharged V8 with four-wheel drive.
The F-Type delivers exceptional driving dynamics across all variants, with the P300 offering agility and responsiveness, whilst the P575 R provides supercar-rivalling performance and excitement. The coupe provides a practical 299-310 litre boot, whilst the convertible's 200-233 litre boot is smaller but still respectable. Running costs are moderate for the P300, achieving around 29mpg officially, though real-world figures are lower. The V8 models consume fuel more readily at 25-26mpg. All models feature generous standard equipment, including leather sports seats, LED headlights, and premium audio systems. Insurance and servicing costs are reasonable, with fixed-price servicing plans available from £1,000-£1,500 for three years.
Best for: Drivers seeking a thrilling, beautifully styled sports car with genuine performance credentials, those wanting a British alternative to German rivals, and buyers willing to sacrifice practicality for driving pleasure.
Not ideal for: Families requiring more than two seats, those prioritising fuel economy, or buyers concerned about expensive aluminium repairs.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jaguar F-Type | 4/5 | 4.9/5 | 30.1% | 4.1/5 |
| Porsche 718 Boxster | 5/5 | 4.3/5 | 37.7% | 4.5/5 |
| Audi TT Mk3 | 4/5 | 4.3/5 | 51.7% | 4.4/5 |
| BMW Z4 E89 | 3/5 | 4.5/5 | 23.3% | 4.0/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the F-Type if: You desire a stunningly styled sports car with genuine performance, want a British alternative to German rivals, or seek an engaging driving experience without compromise.
Consider alternatives if: You require more than two seats, prioritise fuel economy, or wish to avoid expensive aluminium repairs.
Competitive Position: The Jaguar F-Type is a worthy contender in the premium sports car market, offering sublime styling and thrilling driving dynamics at a competitive price point. Whilst the Porsche 718 Boxster edges ahead on expert rating and overall CarGurus score, the F-Type delivers exceptional value and a distinctly British character. The Audi TT Mk3 offers better value deals, but the F-Type's superior user rating and more engaging performance make it the choice for those prioritising driving pleasure. The BMW Z4 E89 lags behind on expert rating. The F-Type represents an excellent alternative to established German marques, combining aesthetic appeal with genuine sporting credentials and relative affordability.
