Jeep Grand Cherokee Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Comfy on the road, capable off it | It's hugely expensive |
| High quality interior | No seven-seater option |
| Lots of technology on board | European rivals do most things a little better |
Quick Summary
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is America's answer to the Range Rover Sport—a large SUV designed to be comfortable, refined and sophisticated on the road, yet virtually unstoppable off it. This fifth-generation model represents a significant improvement over its predecessors in terms of on-road dynamic polish, interior quality and technology. It offers a spacious 580-litre boot with a square shape and massive opening, plus class-leading rear legroom. The plug-in hybrid drivetrain combines a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine with electric motors, delivering 380 metric horsepower and impressive performance of 0-62mph in 6.3 seconds, whilst offering up to 31 miles of pure electric range on a full charge.
The Grand Cherokee excels with its sophisticated four-wheel-drive system featuring multiple driving modes (Auto, Sport, Rock, Snow, Mud and Sand) and Quadra-lift air suspension with adaptive damping on higher trims. The infotainment system is comprehensive with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, though it can be complex to navigate. Running costs are substantial, with prices starting around £72,000, and real-world fuel economy will be considerably lower than official WLTP figures unless you regularly charge and keep journeys short. Despite its premium positioning and European competition, the latest Grand Cherokee offers genuine appeal to those seeking a capable luxury SUV with genuine off-road credentials.
Best for: Buyers seeking a luxury SUV with genuine off-road capability, those wanting a plug-in hybrid with impressive performance, and drivers prioritising comfort and interior quality over badge prestige.
Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers, those needing a seven-seater option, or drivers seeking the finest handling dynamics of European rivals.

The Verdict
You should buy the Grand Cherokee if: You're seeking a luxury SUV with genuine off-road capability, want a plug-in hybrid with impressive performance, or prioritise comfort and interior quality over badge prestige.
Consider alternatives if: You're budget-conscious, need a seven-seater option, or require the finest handling dynamics of European rivals.
Competitive Position: The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a compelling offering in the luxury SUV segment, representing a significant step forward from previous generations. Whilst it may not match the Range Rover Sport's on-road refinement or the Mercedes G-Class's prestige, it offers a unique blend of American capability and modern technology at a competitive price point. The plug-in hybrid drivetrain provides an interesting alternative to traditional petrol or diesel powertrains, and its genuine off-road credentials set it apart from more road-focused European competitors. For buyers valuing practicality, comfort and versatility, the Grand Cherokee presents a strong case.

5 Overall rating
(5 reviews)Good value missing nothing I would compare to range rover
Brilliant vehicle. I’ve had 4 of them. Used for towing horse box. The pulling power is more than sufficient along with superb reliability. Saying that, preventative maintenance is my mantra. A little expensive on day to day running costs but, you get what you pay for. Luxury and comfort with all the toys. Looking for number 5.
Ive just got my Jeep and I can honestly say I love it. Very smooth ride indeed loads of extras and just what I needed to pull my Horse Trailer. Very quite running for a Deisel, best Big Truck Ive owned Runs and drives as good as it looks, Alot of car for the money
Excellent value for money with so many extras comfort and punchy this car is no slouch and will climb mountains when required steady and sturdy unbreakable with a remarkable 3.0 l Merc engine give good mpg for its size
This car is a SP{ORT Utility Vehicle , 0-60 in 5 seconds, top speed 160mph. Has every bell and whistle. I am compering this with my 2002 Grand Cherokee 4.7litre. Immaculate condition and a good price.
