Kia EV3 (2024-present) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Extrovert styling	Unsettled ride
Loads of space for a car of its size	Too many touch-sensitive controls inside
Long range	Some cheap-feeling interior plastics

Quick Summary

The Kia EV3 is a distinctive and practical electric SUV with bold, futuristic styling that sets it apart from rivals like the Hyundai Kona Electric. It offers impressive space for its size, with 460 litres of boot space, comfortable rear seating with USB charging sockets, and a light, airy interior. The single 201bhp electric motor delivers brisk acceleration (0-62mph in 7.5-7.7 seconds), whilst the 58kWh battery provides an official range of 270 miles (around 200 miles real-world), or the larger 81kWh unit offers 375 miles officially (around 280 miles real-world). All models come with a seven-year/100,000-mile warranty and comprehensive standard equipment including heated seats, climate control, and wireless smartphone integration.

However, the EV3 isn't without compromises. The ride quality is somewhat unsettled, with the suspension jiggling over smaller ruts whilst allowing excessive waft over longer undulations. The interior features too many touch-sensitive controls that lack tactile feedback, and some plastic trim feels downmarket for the £33,000 starting price. Steering feedback could be sharper, and the rear seats lack the versatility of some competitors. At around £10,000 more than the MG ZS EV, it demands justification, though the combination of space, range, and performance goes some way towards this.

Best for: Buyers seeking a distinctive, spacious electric SUV with excellent range and comprehensive warranty protection, and those who value practical family transport with bold styling.

Not ideal for: Those prioritising ride comfort, drivers wanting maximum interior versatility, or budget-conscious EV buyers seeking the lowest possible price.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the EV3 if: You want a distinctive, spacious electric SUV with excellent range and comprehensive warranty protection, and value practical family transport with bold styling.

Consider alternatives if: You prioritise ride comfort, need maximum interior versatility, or are seeking the lowest possible price for an electric vehicle.

Competitive Position: The Kia EV3 is a solid contender in the compact electric SUV market, offering distinctive styling, impressive practicality, and long range. Whilst it falls short of the Kia Niro EV's overall excellence and the Smart #1's driving enjoyment, it remains a desirable choice for those seeking space and character. The Hyundai Kona Electric offers a more comfortable ride and greater interior versatility, but the EV3's bolder design and comprehensive warranty appeal to buyers wanting something different. For budget-conscious shoppers, the MG ZS EV provides better value, though it lacks the EV3's premium feel and range capabilities.
