Kia Niro EV (2022-2026) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Impressive efficiency and decent electric range	Reasonable value for money, but not the bargain Kias once were
A practical family car despite compact dimensions	Bold styling might not be to all tastes
Long warranty	Only one choice of power output

Quick Summary

The Kia Niro EV (2022-2026) is a dependable and practical electric family SUV that offers impressive efficiency and a decent driving range of 285 miles on a full charge. It succeeds the popular e-Niro with an evolutionary design featuring a blockier, more upright SUV-style appearance and Kia's trademark angular LED headlights. The Niro EV carries over the same 64.8kWh battery pack and front-mounted electric motor, delivering 201bhp and reaching 62mph in 7.8 seconds. With a spacious 475-litre boot, a 20-litre frunk for charging cables, and excellent interior quality, it competes favourably with rivals like the Skoda Elroq and Volkswagen ID.3.

Driving the Niro EV is very pleasant and assured, with three drive modes (Eco, Normal, and Sport) and sophisticated regenerative braking that can be controlled via steering wheel paddles. The suspension is comfortable even over rough roads, and the driving position is excellent on mid-spec and higher trims. As a used or nearly-new electric car, the Niro EV remains an excellent choice, offering long-range capability, useful technology including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Kia's renowned seven-year warranty. Running costs are low if you can charge at home using off-peak electricity rates.

Best for: Families seeking a practical, efficient electric SUV with impressive range, buyers wanting sophisticated technology and comfort, and those looking for a dependable used EV with warranty peace of mind.

Not ideal for: Those prioritising cutting-edge styling, buyers needing multiple power output options, or those who cannot charge at home and rely on expensive public rapid chargers.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Niro EV if: You're seeking a practical, efficient electric family SUV with impressive range, want sophisticated technology and comfort, or are looking for a dependable used EV with warranty peace of mind.

Consider alternatives if: You prioritise cutting-edge styling, need multiple power output options, or cannot charge at home and rely on expensive public rapid chargers.

Competitive Position: The Kia Niro EV is a standout in the used electric SUV market, offering excellent practicality, impressive efficiency, and a long driving range that rivals the Skoda Elroq and Volkswagen ID.3. Whilst the MG4 EV offers better value for money, the Niro EV excels in comfort, technology, and warranty coverage. Its sophisticated regenerative braking system, spacious interior, and quality materials make it an excellent choice for families seeking a dependable and refined electric vehicle. Though production has ended, the used market offers compelling opportunities, particularly through Kia's Approved Used scheme.
