The current Range Rover is a deeply impressive luxury SUV. It combines exceptional refinement, genuine long-distance comfort and real off-road ability in a way that few rivals can match, and it finally feels as well finished inside as its price tag suggests. Even the lower trim levels deliver a sense of occasion, while the breadth of the range means there’s a version to suit everything from family duties to chauffeur work.

There are still caveats, however. The Range Rover is expensive to buy and run, its infotainment system isn’t up to the standards of the class leaders, and long-term reliability is something to keep an eye on. But if you’re after something that feels supremely special, yet can still tow, wade and tackle the roughest terrain when required, the Range Rover is the luxury SUV to beat.
