Safety, systems excellent, good vision and driving position. Roomy interior , has a spec safer spare wheel. Build quality excellent. The car for its size is ideal for easy parking in uk parking bays If find the ride is a bit “bumpy” . Price was good value from Lexus Leicester. Compared it with the Hyundai Tucson hybrid, had concerns about the smaller engine on the Hyundai (1.6) as I understand they can have valve problems over the longer term compared to the Lexus (2.5) engine type.

Lexus NX 300h (2015-2021) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Superb build quality | Not as fuel-efficient as the official figures suggest |
| Very unlikely to go wrong | Lots of road noise at speed |
| Comfortable and reasonably quiet if driven smoothly | Irritating infotainment system |
Quick Summary
The Lexus NX 300h (2015-2021) is an overlooked premium compact SUV that deserves far more credit than it typically receives. Powered by a punchy 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a torque-rich electric motor, the self-charging hybrid delivers all-wheel drive via a smooth CVT automatic transmission. The NX offers precision engineering, comprehensive standard equipment, and a stellar reliability record that rivals any German competitor. Whilst the styling may not appeal to everyone and interior space is somewhat restrictive, the car excels in comfort, refinement, and build quality.
Running costs are reasonable, with CO2 emissions of 121g/km and claimed fuel returns of 54.3mpg, though real-world figures typically hover around the mid-thirties. Annual servicing includes a comprehensive hybrid system health check with warranty extension. Insurance groupings are steep at group 32 for the 300h. Used prices have remained strong due to the NX's reputation for reliability and growing acceptance of hybrid technology. If you prioritise trouble-free motoring, exceptional build quality, and strong residual values, the NX 300h is an excellent choice, despite its quirky infotainment system and road noise at higher speeds.
Best for: Buyers seeking premium reliability, comfort, and build quality; those embracing hybrid technology; drivers prioritising trouble-free ownership and strong residual values.
Not ideal for: Those requiring maximum interior space; buyers seeking the finest driving dynamics; drivers wanting intuitive infotainment systems or those prioritising headline fuel economy figures.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lexus NX 300h | 3/5 | 4.6/5 | 40.3% | 4.3/5 |

| Audi Q5 | 4/5 | 4.3/5 | 38.8% | 4.4/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the NX 300h if: You prioritise premium reliability and build quality, embrace hybrid technology, seek trouble-free ownership, or value strong residual values.
Consider alternatives if: You require maximum interior space, seek the finest driving dynamics, want intuitive infotainment, or prioritise headline fuel economy figures.
Competitive Position: The Lexus NX 300h (2015-2021) is a compelling alternative to German rivals, offering superior build quality, exceptional reliability, and lower running costs through its hybrid powertrain. Whilst the BMW X3 edges ahead on driving dynamics and the Volvo XC60 offers a more modern cabin experience, the NX 300h delivers outstanding value for those prioritising dependability and comfort. Its strong residual values and comprehensive warranty support make it an intelligent choice for buyers seeking a premium SUV that won't let them down. The NX remains underrated in a market dominated by diesel-powered German alternatives, making it an excellent proposition for the discerning buyer.
